(47,953 posts)Everything would be wonderful then, according to the bubble-heads on TV.Except that I firmly believe we would be neck-deep in fighting in Iraq, Syria and Iran, and thousands of us troops would be dead. So in all probability we would not be experiencing this under a repub.
And if we had President Palin, well I don't even think the US would be recognizable anymore. Except maybe as a real world Idiocracy.

(269,157 posts)The CorpoDems are too busy distancing themselves from a genuinely decent president to focus on the real issues. The drop on gas prices should be the biggest news in this election and it would be seen as a 'Mitt miracle' not to mention the reduction in unemployment.

Way to catapult the propaganda, NPR!

(5,957 posts)The reasons for the lower gas prices are business related, not government related and there are two main factors:
1.) Fracking has greatly increased the domestic supply of crude oil
2.) Worldwide demand for oil is down because of a generally weak global economy.
These things gets covered regularly in the venues where they belong - business publications (e.g WSJ, CNBC, Bloomberg, etc.).

(7,318 posts)who have anything to do with oil and gas production, especially here the US.
While low gas prices are great for US consumers, if the price of oil gets too much below $82/barrel, the US oil industry will start to take a big hit. A large portion of our oil production in the US comes from literally squeezing oil out of rock (oil shale), which is a very expensive way to obtain oil.
Saudi Arabia is flooding the market with oil in order to drive prices down and has said they can maintain the flood for the long term. While some say their motive is to hurt Russia and China, the US certainly will sustain collateral damage from such a strategy.
Obama upped the whole 'US oil independence' push in order to mollify the 'drill baby drill' crowd. The deafening silence you hear is from the Dems too, because how can they cheer low gas prices when it may mean the destruction of one of the legs on Obama's economic stool.
They are literally caught between a rock and a hard place.

(6,036 posts)Be tough to take credit unless one has supported fracking. Since that is behind the price drop/oil glut. For most Dem's it would be awkward at best to sing the praises of this. When the price drops due to reduced consumption then we can celebrate.

(7,719 posts)I wouldn't doubt that America's allies are keeping prices low to starve out the Russian military machine. Oil and gas revenues accounted for 52% of federal budget revenues and over 70% of total exports in 2012, and they have been producing at capacity for a decade. One can imagine what the price drop has done to their revenue. Couple that with the sanctions imposed and I think they are hurting badly for revenue. There's more ways than one to skin a cat and Putin's shedding fur rapidly!

(1,591 posts)A few weeks of 20-30 cents gas price reduction,.......... at the end of the peak gasoline use time of year,..... is not enough for terribly ran campaigns to rebound.
regardless the 6.whatever lets all work fast food unemployment rate, people are now, and have been hurting for jobs for a very long time. the ACA dedutible slight of hand is real. Even though 10 million people were added to the program, how many millions LOST thier coverage ? How many of those 10 million can afford the monthy premium, but not the dedtible ? Calling half the country ignorant, racist, bible thumping gun humper - homophobes has had an effect. The "big tent" baloney of days past, is now "HOW CAN YOU BE THIS FUCKING STUPID"! ....now vote for my guy 'YOU STUPID FUCKING HOMOPHOBE RACIST"! yup, worked well, tomorrow is the proof.
in a mid term election where Democrats have been historically less likely to show up at the polls, the Democrats made sure to motivate the "other" HALF the country, and they did it very well. tomorrow is not going to be a surprise to anyone regardless how "shocked" everyone will appear.
Democrats spend the last 8-12 years HAMMERING Republicans for ignorance, stupidity, racism and economic theft. They now symbolically join the Republicans is shunning BO on the campaign trails. "surprise" !
or-Republicans are smart enough to steal ALL the elections tomorrow, and Democrats are too stupid to stop them. one or the other.

If you only accept opinion that that mimic your own, are you sure that's what a Democracy is all about ?
