The EBOLA threads on DU

The threads about ebola on DU have made me cringe. It hurts to see so much ignorance and fear on a Democratic forum.

I want to personally condemn those of you who spread the lies and fear. You know who you are.

I want to personally thank those that counteract the lies and fear. You know who you are.

I work in the home health care field, so this subject affects me personally.

I may not respond immediately, as I have a long day ahead. I will respond to "stupid" in kind, or not at all.

I have become so disappointed with the ignorance that has been displayed on this site.

It does not bode well for the "Democratic Party".

I don't know where you are coming from, so I can not respond appropriately.

If you think you are on my condemn list, you must be on the side of fear at all cost.

I have no idea what " good guys" means in this context.

I would appreciate a clarification (PM if you so choose).

That's not how I define my position, but it may be the way you define my position. I can't help how you choose to define me.

There's nothing to clarify via PM. I'm under no obligation to "present" myself to you for you to judge which category I fall under.

I think I can say with relative confidence that I'm one of the "bad guys" in your view of things, so please feel free to let loose with the insults and namecalling and rage.

I'm not much more likely to run into you in real life than I am to contract Ebola, so ultimately, your opinion of me doesn't matter.

I've never been one to be fearful - and nearly 10 years ago my wife and I made a decision to pretty much stop watching TV or reading the paper - which means we aren't faced with ads or corporate owned news. Advertising is just everywhere - to me, all TV and most print media is about ads, about selling. And it is done because it works - it is insidious. Just as sex sells, fear sells - but fear also drives behavior.

Perhaps it has always been like it is now - maybe age makes one more skeptical, cynical, jaded. But - man, it is just pretty bad out there - in so many ways. It is hard to even know where or how to start the changes that are needed.

I refuse to be marketed to.

I love the late Bill Hicks. Nothing more needs said about that.

Maybe age has jaded me, but I still have the same ideals I had in my youth. I am a bit disappointed that my efforts have come to naught.

My hope comes from my children and grandchildren who believe in the same principles as I do.

and that we hopefully don't see any more cases, at least for awhile.

And we can spend the next few days to encourage people to GOTV.

But I also hope that what is happening in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia is not forgotten.

And yeah, I hope that the education to the public gets better so that people aren't afraid of catching Ebola.

I will be early voting in Texas tomorrow, and challenging the fact that my drivers license doesn't exactly match my voter ID.

I have been voting longer than I have been driving. Always from the same address.

Thank you KMOD for your courage.

Not so much from the E. Boli, or Ricola, or whatever (thank you Rachel Maddow), but I'm pretty frightened that the Republicans actually have a chance of taking the Senate.
That, literally, scares the bejeezus out of me.

I live in Texas and I can assure you, the repugs are destroying the rights of citizens in this state.

I will be challenged when I go to vote. My drivers license does not "exactly" match my voter card. I've been voting longer than I have been driving. Both from the same address for more than 40 years.

We have a better than a good idea of how Ebola is caught, when it has the greatest ability to spread, and what it's incubation period is. Yet, there are people that think it can be spread just because someone was working with an Ebola patient whether they are symptomatic or not. Personally I don't get it. Ebola was one of those diseases that sounded terrifying to me, it is still a terrifying disease because of what it does and the death rate. But, the more I learn the less scary it is. Plus I am not in the health care field.

I am really tired of the hair on fire crowd.
