Do Republican voters think they will become RICH if they vote for Romney?

Many Republican voters around here are 'blue collar workers' or unemployed. Do they think that somehow this magic dust will rub off on them if they vote for rich, aristocratic Romney? Is it like doing the big megamillion lottery - buy a ticket and they might become rich - if they vote for Romney somehow they will also become rich? They loved the Bushes because of their big oil yet these were the ones who put us in debt.

These people are asking for cuts to the national debt but in fact they are voting against themselves! They don't want a decent healthcare system but they are quite content to borrow to pay their expensive medical bills.

Do the ignorant (43% of this country) think this the right thing to do?

about 10 years ago, my garage mechanic had his 19 year old son join him in his work. This young guy would say he was against tax hikes on the rich because one day HE would be rich.

Well, flash forward 10 years: he now has a kid (whose mother he has not married). The kid needs health care but he has to depend on the state of CT to supply it. He had tried to go to a community college to get a degree in electrical engineering but he kept having to drop out due to lack of money for tuition.

Not only him, but his sister, who is a bookkeeper at the garage, has four kids and is not married and those kids are also on the state health care plan.

I do not begrudge anything these people have for their children. But I wonder: do they still vote Republican like the last time I talked to them about politics?

I wonder. I really do...

1. I voted Republican because you can blame problems on poor people instead of the rich ones who actually run things.

2. I voted Republican because firefighters and teachers are
scum-sucking leaches, but the oil companies raking in record profits
NEED those hundreds of millions in taxpayer subsidies.

3. I voted Republican because I believe companies like my cable TV
provider, insurance company and credit card company could do a better
job running the country than the government, no matter how much they
screw me over.

4. I voted Republican because I don’t trust the government, although
I favored the government spying on my health/financial records and
tapping my phone when Bush was in office to keep us safe from ‘trrists.

5. I voted Republican because I don't really care whether terrorists, murderers and drug dealers own guns or not.

6. I voted Republican because I believe climate change doesn't
exist; if I can't see it with my own two eyes, it doesn't exist. Like
gravity.

7. I voted Republican because I hate women having abortions, but
once the baby is born and dies from a preventable illness that’ okay.

8. I voted Republican because I believe in laying off workers to
boost profits; then I get to complain about lazy unemployed people.

9. I voted Republican because I understand capitalism. Demand
doesn’t increase jobs…ensuring corporations pay no taxes and cutting
healthcare and education does.

10. I voted Republican because I care about the deficit and support
cutting services that I really need. But extra tax cuts for the super
rich that actually caused the deficit should be extended indefinitely.

11. I voted Republican because I believe in never having to solve
any problems in the government because I insist government is the
problem anyway.

12. I voted Republican because I hate activist judges, unless they
are conservative (Yes, corporations should get to spend unlimited money
in elections).

13. I voted Republican because spite and fear is better than hope and change.

18. IMO, Yes they do. But disturbingly ...,

I think this belief is their last grasp on their rapidly waning delusion.

Imagine being told all your life: "Your economic out-come is up to you; If you stay in school, get a good education, work hard, and make good and wise decisions, you will make it in this America ... it's the American Dream. If you fail, it's because you, like those other losers, did not work hard enough or weren't smart enough."

Now, imagine you are 50 years old and have lived this prescription for success ... you stayed in school, you worked hard, and you choose to make wise decisions as evidenced by your driving a 15 year old car and living in a not so nice part of town; but what little you had in the bank is gone because you have not gotten a raise in 5 years, your 401K was depleted when your wife lost her job, and despite your taking a second job, you are still struggling to make your mortgage, and you are still one missed paycheck from financial ruin ...

Now, factor in the fact that you have spent the last 30 years watching less educated, less smart, less hard-working others, pass you by.

Now ask yourself ... Is it easier to continue believing what you have been told all your life; or acknowledge that you have been living a life-long lie?

http://www.salem-news.com/articles/july272009/american_money_dj_7-27-09.php

Jul-27-2009

(CALGARY, Alberta) - Americans believe, as part of their cultural mythology, that potentially anyone can get rich. Wealth really comes from three basic sources: You can win it, inherit it or be born in the right place at the right time.

None of these things are in your sphere of control, and if you know you are not in line to receive any inheritance, to believe that one of the other two will strike you, is self-delusional.

A study published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, found that only 2.7% of Americans receive $50,000 or more in inheritance; 91.9% receive nothing. Thus, the attempt by some conservatives to eliminate inheritance taxes—which, for PR, they always call "death taxes"—would take a huge bite out of government revenues for the benefit of less than 1% of the population. So, forget inheritance as a way to get rich.

People vote their aspirations, not their reality. In a poll during the 2000 election, people were asked if they were in the top 1 percent of earners. Nineteen percent of Americans said they were in the top 1 percent and another 20 percent expect to be someday. So immediately there is more than a third of Americans who don’t oppose tax cuts for the wealthy because they think it somehow does now, or will one day, apply to them.
