President Obama is a good example of how masculinity can be important to society

He is a cool, calm headed thinker, good listener and a great orator. He has amazing control of his emotions despite still being a human being. So many attack him with insults, and yet, he still is like a rock on a beach as the waves break upon that rock. If he leaves office, the country will be in better shape in some ways, worse in others. However, the net result is a positive about him.

President Obama is a very good role model for many young women and men in our country. In times of darkness and sadness we are pointing fingers at problems, but not at the people that have the solutions to our problems.

Obama's leadership style. He's a leader, and his "masculinity" isn't the reason. Reason and wisdom are the reasons. It has nothing to do with gender roles or characteristics.

You say he is a good role model for "many young women and men," but you're talking about his "masculinity." I'm not getting it here.

Finally, in what ways do you think the country will be in worse shape? I'd like to know what you mean.

wtf does that have to do with masculinity?

for example my German friend has described Angela Merkel in much the same way (so many attack and look for scandals, but she is like a rock)

seems like you are you are trying a sly jab at "emotional" women

Those are good traits, but over-excited, irrational, or tongue-tied are not feminine traits either.

In fact, culturally, a lot of the traits traditionally read as "masculine" are among our worst. Anger, belligerence, rigid refusal to compromise or empathize.

Whatever Obama is doing right or wrong, it's not gender norms making it work.
