Loves me some Doggies! Hurricane and Jordan White House Guard Dogs

Last edited Thu Oct 23, 2014, 08:34 PM - Edit history (1)

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2014/10/23/white-house-dogs-secret-service-malinois/17777089/

You may be familiar with Sunny and Bo, the Obama's family pets. But meet Hurricane and Jordan, two of the White House's protectors.

The dogs thwarted a White House intruder Wednesday night after a man jumped the fence and sprinted across the North Lawn.

The dogs were treated for minor bruises after they were kicked and punched by the fence-jumper, Dominic Adesanya, 23, of Bel Air, Md. Adesanya is currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and has been charged with felony assault on a police officer for hurting the dogs.

The Secret Service shared pictures Thursday of Hurricane and Jordan and said they were both "ready to work."

..... mental problems. I have worked w/ and been around dogs for years and I
still don't know why no dogs were on duty when they guy jumped the fence last
month.

If you look at the video in the link it was a matter of seconds before a dog had
the man down and even though he got back up it was all over by then.

Unsure of their target in the chaos and afraid the dogs would go after pursuing SS personnel.

we are talking about the White House here and if you are unsure about
a dog get a new one and if that doesn't work then get a new handler.
When a dog gets put on duty @ a place like the White House then he or
she be trained and worked with on an ongoing level.

a person running is security dog 101

Security failed at so many levels with the Gonzalez jump incident and a big question then was why the dogs weren't released to attack him.

How much time have you spent around malinois? They really like to bite things and play rough. Gentle they are not nor really over protective. They bite cause it is fun. Now a good german shepherd bites cause he gets mad. Dutch shepherds bite cause they are mean SOBs. Working schutzhund type breeds sre cool but all have some tendecies.

I really like malinois but they are wound tight and kind of snappy. Biting and chasing stuff makes them happy. Truth is some are downright neurotic. They are fun working dogs but most folks would be miserable with them. Shutting down is not in their makeup.

have always fascinated me. There's a book out about this; it's called K-9. In the chapter about dogs who help with homicides, it tells how the dogs find leads or indicate paths that the humans discard, but in the end, it turns out the dogs were right.

I think I read once where they can discern 2000 scents. I don't know if I remembered that correctly or not, but if it's true, it certainly indicates we have not fully tapped into the abilities of our dog companions.
