Homeland Security agents confiscate Birdies’ Royals underwear

Peregrine Honig says she just wanted to help celebrate the hometown team when she designed Lucky Royals boyshorts.

The panties, with “Take the Crown” and “KC” across the rear, were set to be sold in Honig’s Birdies Panties shop Monday. But Homeland Security agents visited the Crossroads store and confiscated the few dozen pairs of underwear, printed in Kansas City by Lindquist Press.

“They came in and there were two guys” Honig said. “I asked one of them what size he needed and he showed me a badge and took me outside. They told me they were from Homeland Security and we were violating copyright laws.”

She thought that since the underwear featured her hand-drawn design, she was safe. But the officers explained that by connecting the “K” and the “C,” she infringed on major league baseball copyright. (The officials involved could not be immediately reached for comment.)

7. It's amazing how prepared whatever agency is involved in this.

KC city has been known to be in the world series for just a matter of days.

Just enough time for rush-jobs to produce these items...and yet whatever agency was johnny-on-the-spot to enforce tragemarks.

It's almost like HSD -anticipated- the need for enforcement.

"Good Work Brownie!"

I hope all those HSD agencies are as ready in the case of say... hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and TERRORISTS!

14. It's fun to joke about, but these agencies have a lot of non-national security functions

They still have a lot of responsibilities that pre-date their conglomeration under DHS.

and I looked at their organizational chart and it didn't suggest anything that sounded like 'commerce enforcement.

I think it's remarkable how prepared to jump on MLB unauthorized world series memorabilia, whatever the agency was involved. It's like they were just waiting to pounce!

Funny how you never notice them working the counterfeit handbag sellors on Canal St.

Easier and cheaper that way.

Our judicial system also provides huge benefits to big business as a way of resolving their internal disputes on the taxpayers' dime.

5. If homeland security is now enforcing copyright laws ...

... that means they are no longer needed for anti-terrorism activities. It's time to disband the whole agency.

Let's just declare victory in the "war on terror", and try to get our law enforcement agencies out of combat mode.

You can go from there to learn more. Apparently this is one of the functions of DHS.

First I had heard of this part of their mission. How this fits with "homeland security" is still a mystery to me, but obviously Congress and Bushco decided to stick this in there when DHS was created.

9. In all fairness, the DHS has to justify why they deserve a paycheck.

We all know that the DHS was an unnecessary department, created out of fear and anger by the Bush regime.
