By Greg Tepper April 15, 2012, 11:49 pm
A major Israel TV station on Sunday night broadcast a detailed report on how Israel will go about attacking Irans nuclear facilities in the event that diplomacy and sanctions fail and Israel decides to carry out a military strike.
The report, screened on the main evening news of Channel 10, was remarkable both in terms of the access granted to the reporter, who said he had spent weeks with the pilots and other personnel he interviewed, and in the fact that his assessments on a strike were cleared by the military censor.
No order to strike is likely to be given before the P5+1 talks with Iran resume in May, the reporter, Alon Ben-David, said. But the coming summer will not only be hot but tense.
In the event that negotiations fail and the order is given for Israel to carry out an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, dozens if not more planes will take part in the mission: attack and escort jets, tankers for mid-air refueling, electronic warfare planes and rescue helicopters, the report said.

(146,317 posts)I went there, and from what I can see, it's far from an unbiased site. Can anyone characterize it for me briefly? I don't have time to do a thorough analysis of it, but I saw some stuff there that looked like propaganda to me.

(146,317 posts)I don't follow the Middle East conflict very closely, although I'm well aware of the conflict between a possible armed attack on Iran's nuclear program and establishing some sort of peace in the region. I find the Middle East to be such a confusing situation, overall, that I rarely comment on it or read detailed accounts of it. To make matters worse, it is my opinion that the United States has wrongfully meddled in that region, and never to any good effect.
I'm not a jingoist, but I do believe that the US should present a neutral face in the overall issues of the Middle East. We've screwed up too often to take one side against the other. We, as a nation, do not understand what is going on there, apparently, so we generally make a hash of any attempt to intervene.
Beyond that, On DU, there is a strong factionalism regarding Israel and its neighbors. That's why there is an Israel/Palestine area for people to duck it out amongst themselves. I do not go there.

(60,010 posts)so I am glad we have a Middle East group now to collect non- I/P stories.
It will be good to have a record of the progression of events in the area as things are brought to a head.

Then all Hell will break loose in the Middle East.
