It's been a long time...

...since I read the short story "The Masque of the Red Death", by Edgar Allan Poe. But recent news stories about Ebola jogged my memory. The tale seems pretty appropriate regarding the Ebola scare, on two fronts:

1 - the red imagery of the disease itself, since of course the scariest thing (IMO) about Ebola is that patients bleed at the end from most if not all orifices

2 - the feeling we had here in the States, until just a few days ago, that "It can't get in here, no sirree, we're protected inside this castle and we know how to keep it at bay"

Okay so this isn't the most uplifting or useful post ever. It was just a strange thought I had a couple of days ago and it won't go away.

Carry on.

You do not bleed from every orifice and your organs do not liquify. uppityperson Oct 2014 #1
