I just finished the late Joe Bageant's "Deer Hunting With Jesus."

A wonderful, depressing, maddening piece of acerbic writing and needle-sharp reportage the likes of which I can't remember reading in years.

Anyone posting on DU should read this book ASAP. It explains why this country is so terminally fucked more eloquently than anyone else ever has, even Charlie Pierce in Idiot America.

I just couldn't put it down: read it cover to cover in a day and a half. I'd like to read more of his work. Too bad he passed.

"American Serfs" indeed.

Cannot go whole hog with him, by a long sight, but there was a lot worth reading, that needed saying, in his commentaries.

I was introduced to his writing here on DU back then. And, "Deer Hunting" still seems fresh today.

I am sure there is talent among us to help with that and provide good reviews.
I personally have loads of time and read a LOT every day.
Just a thought...

Meanwhile...Bageant.
I cried when he died.
And everything he said is even more true today....which sucks.
