Gov. Nathan Deal, who is fighting for a second term in office, sat down with the MDJ this week to share his thoughts on the Ebola virus, traffic congestion, illegal immigration and Common Core.
There are three candidates in the Nov. 4 race: Deal, Democrat Jason Carter and Libertarian Andrew Hunt. But Deal believes he can win without a runoff, despite Hunt being in the race.
I think so, he said. I think people understand that thats a wasted vote, and I dont think were in a posture in this state or in this country where we need to be wasting our votes. We need to hopefully focus on whats the right thing to do for our state and for our country, and Im trying to make sure I get that message out.
This week, Deal met with commissioners of Georgias health departments to receive an update on the states readiness to combat cases of the Ebola virus.
And their conclusion was that we are in pretty good shape here in Georgia, Deal said. They have reached out to all of the hospitals. They are continuing to reach out to EMTs, first responders, to make sure that they know how to react in the event they have somebody who is a potential case of Ebola. The most comforting thing that I heard from (Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health) was that water kills the Ebola virus. Ive never heard that before. I thought it was something that was so contagious there wasnt much you could do to prevent it or anything else, so her advice was wash your hands.

That kind of comment is what happens when you have a group that eschews science, logic and reason.

That is how long those dumb asses usually live with their socialist health care paid for by taxpayers. They gripe my ass on so many levels.

(95,337 posts)Look I'm from the north. An inch or 2 of snow is like a walk in the park for us Yankees. But Deal did nothing when there was snow and ice in the weather for Georgia - the schools stayed open. And there were thousands of Georgians including busloads of children stuck in vehicles for hours on end trying to get out of the massive traffic jams.
CottonBear
(21,596 posts)We don't have snowplows, stores of road salt or vehicles equipped with snow tires and snow chains down here in the Southeast. Plus, we tend to get lots of ice and sleet. An ice storm simply shuts down roadways. Thankfully, the city and school officials in my area closed the colleges, schools and city/county offices for several days.
LynneSin
(95,337 posts)Knowing that Georgia is not equipped to handle snow, Deal should have shut down all schools that day. Instead he put those kids at risk sending them to school. Many of them were stuck on school buses for hours.

(39,343 posts)and damn you for making me defend what that ass face said. I doubt that he thinks water is magic, but we are a little better setup here than some of the villages and countries where ebola ravaged entire communities.
If everyone would wash their hands more, public spread of things like the flu would be greatly reduced.

(1 post)From World Health Organization via Klvtv:
"So how long does the Ebola virus live outside the body in water? According to the World Health Organization, Ebola in water only lives a matter of minutes because without its' host it tries to equalize its osmotic pressure and bursts, which kills the virus."
Who knew?

(51,666 posts)Handwashing, particularly in West Africa, would certainly help with community spread of the disease.
But that won't be the message the average low information voter takes away from this. They'll just bitch about all the money being spent on PPE and disinfectants since it's "common knowledge" that water "kills Ebola".
