Presidential candidate Mitt Romney:
I cant precisely predict what the unemployment rate will be at the end of one year. I can tell you that over period of four years by virtue of the policies we put in place, we will get the unemployment rate down to 6 percent and perhaps a little lower.
so that's 6% or a little lower by the end of 2016.
Current unemployment rate in 2014 under Obama: 5.9%
Go ahead and make that call Mitt. We'll wait.

(18,636 posts)I've never seen supply side economics kick in until a democrat wins the office. That's just the nature of the beast.

(51,076 posts)Obama isn't man enough in his eyes for him to feel he needs to congratulate him. Mitt don't like black or brown people unless they are doing what he doesn't want to do himself and then its not that he likes them its he tolerates them only and only for the time needed to complete the task. Mitt is not a good person in any way, shape or form.
Does he think Anne will win the election for him, so therefore he says "we"? He had better keep that snooty, entitled witch off TV to even stand a chance. He is such a wimpy, self impirtant milquetoast.

Imagine if it were Mittens, the media would be fawning.

What's more there are people right here at DU who attack us when we give him credit for the recovery.

I am constantly impressed that, to right wing hate radio jocks, NOTHING that happens in this country is good. Armageddon is right around the corner. All the time.

(12,233 posts)in the economy (and most of us on DU know this)... But many people in the country don't, and having lower unemployment numbers means that these companies claiming the economy sucks and they have their pick of the litter when it comes to hiring anyone out there becomes a farce. By having these lower numbers, more people should be able to find a job and even perhaps begin getting a raise, have the company actually hire someone for a position that would allow you to have a life below 60 or 70 hrs a week and perhaps a vacation (we know that many companies eliminated positions and when they were doing well, never re-hired people back-- they just put the extra burdened work on the employees left behind who then had to do the work of 2 or 3 workers, at less pay, and be grateful they still had a job). So, the national psyche of having lower unemployment numbers does help workers and the country continue to add more jobs and jobs that will have more pay or benefits attached to them.
What would help foster even more growth, would be increasing min wage to a living wage (more like $15.00/ hr, which is more like $30,000/ yr; instead of this $10.10 crap, which is about $20,000/yr which isn't very "live-able" anywhere), making health care a guaranteed, single-payer system (which would take the cost of health care off of one's wages and decrease the over all costs by enrolling everyone in a single system that is processed by the gov't that only costs 3- 5% on overhead; not 20% for insurance companies who only take from the system and offer no actual benefits), and increasing taxes on the wealthiest Americans so that there is more money brought back into the real economy and for the gov't to distribute into things like education, infrastructure, "green" energy, etc. It would also be really great if we could eventually bring down the hours in the work week so people had time to live their lives more fully. We have superseded productivity rates due to our technological advances. These advances should be enhancing our lives and making people more well off and well rounded, not the reverse.
