Bumper stickers can be dangerous

Last edited Wed Oct 8, 2014, 02:12 PM - Edit history (1)

A few Dems I know who have/had bumper stickers that said “Obama,” or “Think Green,” or anything else that indicated they were a “bleeding heart librul,” have had their cars keyed, or a tail light broken in a parking lot. My cousin with a “Charlie Crist” sticker was almost run off the turnpike by some lunatic who screamed “commie prick” out the window at him. (Charlie Crist is on the Dem ticket for Governor of FL.)

I was reminded of all this early this morning when I was behind a car with a bumper sticker that read:

Have the
Obama
Presidency
End now

Why is it that Fox heads, Teapots, and various other zombie know-nothings can put any piece of crap on their cars and feel perfectly safe? It’s probably because they know that no “damn librul coward” would dare do anything about it. We Dems, however, make ourselves potential targets when we display our beliefs.

Perhaps we’re farther along on the evolutionary scale than the knuckle draggers. But whatever the reason, they don’t think twice about publicizing their views, while we make ourselves targets for vandalism, or worse, by doing so.

Just one additional thought: Does that bumper sticker described above seem to you like some sort of call to action?

make a difference. However, the incidents I mentioned all happened in Palm Beach County, FL which pretty much votes Democratic.

you can remove it. It is not smart to ride around (or park) in some places with certain leftist stickers. I was pulled over by a Georgia trooper for an Obama sticker and tinted windows back in 08 (I'm white and the trooper told me as much). Repukes are fueled by fear and that fear often causes them to lash out. Your Prius with an "I like clean air" or " vote for this democrat" sticker may frighten them. Since they do not have the ability to rationally discuss issues, it is manifested often by swearing and a one finger salute.

I have gotten positive comments for my "Hayduke Lives" sticker on my old pickup truck. It's usually from older hippies.

the trooper would have said/done if you weren't white. It seems like this kind of sickness/intolerance/ignorance will never end.

It makes the car look tacky no matter the sticker. I still see Bush 2004 stickers. Why? It's been 10 years...

With cops than ANYONE else. They can pull you over for your political leanings, and claim ANYTHING for pulling you over. Why give the cop the easy target.

Not because of any bad experiences, just general paranoia, what with the cops getting crazier every day. Why make a target of myself?

side with union-hating, union-busting Republicans. Cops have one of the strongest unions in existence. I guess that, like so many, their biases/hatreds overcome their self interest.

as a subtle call for action.
Easy to have that insight down here in the South.

On a general note, I keep my bumper clear of anything that would give rise to ire in this deep deep red state.
Never mind the "shoulds" and shouldn'ts" of the issue, I live in reality down here.
