Just watched RM and her coverage of Wisconsin's voter suppression. And I've had enough.
Let us (the DU) take some action on this. I have mentioned this here before. Now I ask for suggestions on improvements and refinements. If we can come up with a workable model, Lets submit to everyone who might listen.
Basically:
A National Voting Holiday ( a day specifically set aside to not only allow, but motivate citizens to vote).
Every election day and every primary election day.
Mandatory (?) except for vital services (who will have their votes taken as well).
Paid Holiday for active Voters(?)
Paid Holiday for registered voters(?).
Un-paid holiday for non-voters (?) or partial paid holiday(?).

(9,796 posts)National holiday, unpaid but mandatory (except for vital services who will vote by post). If you make it paid, you put a burden on small business who are already having to close for the day.
When I was in college, you got a sticker when you voted which could be exchanged for a drink of your choice at the student bar.
