Poor little Mike Huckabee is 'Utterly Exasperated', Threatens To Leave The GOP Over Marriage Equality

This morning's broadcast of the American Family Association's "Today's Issues" program was dedicated to promoting the AFA's "A Time to Speak" documentary, which is aimed at getting pastors to mobilize their congregations to vote in the upcoming elections.

One guest on the program was Mike Huckabee, who began his interview by threatening to leave the Republican Party if the GOP does not take a stand against the Supreme Court's decision yesterday not to hear appeals of lower court rulings striking down gay marriage bans in several states.

Incensed by the decision, Huckabee declared that "I am utterly exasperated with Republicans and the so-called leadership of the Republicans who have abdicated on this issue," warning that by doing so the GOP will "guarantee they're going to lose every election in the future."

"Guarantee it," he said before proclaiming that the Republicans are going to "lose guys like me and a whole bunch of still God-fearing, Bible-believing people" if the party does not stand and fight on the issues of gay marriage and abortion.

"I'm gone," Huckabee warned. "I'll become an independent. I'll start finding people that have guts to stand. I'm tired of this":

sermonizing about her opposition to people like me having rights equal to her own. It reminds me that the LGBT community did enormous work for the Clintons and in return, both of them stood against us. Hillary Clinton was as far as I know the very last of the nationally known Democrats to drop her opposition to equality. The last. It was pulling teeth. She held that anti gay ground hard and fast. For 17 years.
Thanks for reminding me!

The fat cats that run the republican party don't give a shit about gay marriage, or abortion, or marijuana, or any other cultural issues that have been used to sucker fundamentalist kooks since the 60's. All they wanted was a cheap and dirty way to get the votes of the gullible fools that make up this group. And it's worked like a charm for decades.

Now that the floodgates are beginning to open on the same sex marriage issue, the nuts are beginning to learn that it was all lip service. But they have nowhere else to turn unless they want to start their own little party. Which IMO would be a great idea.

Yes, the fundies have been duped for decades by the establishment Republicons who pay lip service to them (like party platform planks) and have given them a few things at the margins.

Those same fat cats can read the tea leaves, and even they know that young people who are inclined to vote GOP really don't give a fig about gay marriage. Hucksterbee is just finding this out. Fun to watch his head explode!

The corporate Republicans never intended that to happen. As long as abortion was legal, it was a reliable way to get the fundies to the polls to vote Republican. Well, now the fundies are succeeding in outlawing abortion, and suddenly this is mobilizing people to vote Democratic.

Gay rights is evaporating as a wedge issue, and abortion is suddenly helping Democrats. I bet the corporate Republicans are worried, except that they they still own the Supreme Court and most of Congress.

And this part of the OP stood out: "aimed at getting pastors to mobilize their congregations to vote in the upcoming elections." Um....let's talk about some IRS watchdogs for this kind of behavior. I'd love to see some "churches" (aka GOP recruiting centers) lose their tax exempt status.

They don't like gays over there and you'd fit right it, you worthless piece of shit and no your prowess on a guitar is not going to get you a free pass peckerhead. Why does everyone always overestimate the extent to which the policies they personally support will be vote-winners?

In amateurs, its' understandable, but for a professional like Huckabee not to recognise that his views are unpopular and becoming more so is ludicrous.
