Oops! Sorry we slaughtered your 7-year-old daughter who was sleeping on the couch at the time.
Let's just forget it ever happened!
A judge has dropped the felony charge leveled against Joseph Weekley, the Detroit police officer who in 2010 shot 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones to death.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office said in a statement that on Friday Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway dismissed the involuntary manslaughter charge, granting a motion submitted by Weekley's attorney, Steve Fishman. Hathaway then granted the prosecution's request for a stay on her decision and adjourned court until Monday.
The prosecution will file an emergency appeal with the Court of Appeals, according to the Detroit News.
<...>
Weekley shot Stanley-Jones in 2010 during a botched police raid in search of a murder suspect. The raid occurred after midnight, and Weekley was first through the door of the Stanley-Jones home on the east side of Detroit, as a film crew shadowing the officers filmed for a reality television show. A fellow officer is said to have thrown a flash-bang grenade, and Weekley fired his gun shortly after, killing the 7-year-old girl, who was sleeping on the couch.

(22,165 posts)... but, in this particular case, I believe the Wayne County Prosecutors Office has honestly tried to get justice for this little girl. The judge and cops in this case .... that's a different story.

My point here is that I honestly believe the Wayne county Prosecutors office has tried to get justice for this little girl .... come on, the murdering cop's gun had NO fingerprints (not even the killer's) and no DNA ... to me this points to his intentions. The judge and the first jury in this case have done what they could to make sure justice is not served for this little girl. It is sickening!

(22,165 posts)... the most the @$$-hole cop could get is something like 2-2.5 years .... for killing an innocent little girl! this story is on every news cast here ... it is sickening.

(22,165 posts)I am so disturbed by this case (she was just a little girl)... for those that have not been following this horrendous story, the front yard and porch were "littered" with the toys of young children (little bikes, those big yellow and orange plastic cars) .... it is impossible for the police to have not noticed this and it is unconscionable that they did not take precautions knowing young children were likely in the house
