Florida officer Tasers 62-year-old black woman in the back as she walks away

A Florida police officer has place been on paid administrative leave after cell phone video showed him using a Taser to stun a 62-year-old African-American woman in the back as she was walking away.

Police said that officers were responding to reports of drug dealing in a neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon. Cell phone video provided to police by a neighbor shows officers placing three suspects in the patrol cars, and repeatedly warning them about walking in the street.

Viola Young, 62, approaches Officer Mahan to ask about one of the men who was being detained. Mahan advises her to stay back, and tries to grab her arm. After she turns and walks away, the officer pulls out his Taser and fires it into her back.

She was taken into custody on charges of resisting an officer without violence. Young was released on Wednesday.

“Based on the video, I have enough concerns to call for an internal investigation and have Officer Mahan put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” DeLeo told reporters. “We will conduct a thorough investigation into this incident. We want to be transparent with the community by sharing what we can at this point.”

Wonder if anyone knows of any stats on if this has risen since Obama started running for POTUS and the GOP and Tea Party unleashed this pent up racism on us. They are definitely to blame for the blatant racism of today imo. They made it "okay" for these assholes to let it out of the bottle it was only partially kept in. It just seems so much more in your face to me now. But I don't have to live it every day. Perhaps it doesn't feel that escalated to those affected by it.

I never really looked at the police as keeping me safe, but I am definitely now becoming more afraid of them (and i am white). I guess this is what they want.

I also can't help but notice that it looks like, after they tazerd the woman, they all left the "bad guys" they were originally arresting, unsupervised in the cars. It looks like every cop on the scene went to where this woman was. So it sure doesn't seem like they could be that dangerous to warrant getting them off the street in the first place.

I would like to see this cop would lose his job and never get another one in the public sector again, or even one dealing with people if possible. And this woman should get a good sum of money, which the tax payers will pay (of only through higher insurance premiums or however this is covered), and lose that much money that could go to the betterment of the community.
