The Rude Pundit - Time to Build a Fence Around Texas

Now that the first Ebola case in the United States has been diagnosed, we know that the infection of the entire nation is imminent. Because of this very real possibility, it is time to build a fence around the entirety of Texas, all 3029 miles, in order to keep the rest of the country safe from diseased Texans.

This task will not be easy, especially since we know that it will be necessary for the fence to be double-layered and electrified. While its construction is happening, the nation will need to provide for thousands of armed border patrols and surveillance including helicopters, drones, and cameras. We have to be prepared for any circumstance in a crisis situation. If necessary, the border patrol must be allowed to shoot to kill any illegal Texans who crosses the fence into non-Texas territory. We are talking about the possibility of a plague that could end civilization as we know it. In this fight against sick Texans, no measure is too extreme. Quarantine is rational; doing nothing is not an option.

To support the work of the officers, the National Guard, if not the rest of the military, should be deployed to assure that Texans stay in Texas. Troops already located in Texas will guard the border and, eventually, the fence from the inside. Containment demands tough choices and sacrifices, but our brave men and women in uniform are up for the challenge.

The nation will understand that this is a difficult decision, but preemptive action against Ebola is the only way to assure that the threat doesn't spread. The risk of Texans spreading deadly illness is too high. Yes, families will be separated, businesses will be affected (although we'll construct pipelines to keep the oil flowing), but it is only temporary. Once we are sure that Texas is free of Ebola, we can slowly begin to allow a few Texans at a time to leave through rigorously monitored border crossings. We will, however, need to collect fingerprints, DNA, and other biometrics to keep track of Texans.

Some Americans may fault this strategy for being too draconian. However, should one Ebola-carrying Texan walk into the middle of Times Square or the National Mall and sneeze, Americans will wonder why we didn't do more to stop Texas.

"Texas is a whole other country." Time to treat it that way, perhaps.

and audited by IRS until their appointed death panel can be convened in the ultimate "Dream act" in order to protect Dinesh D'Souza so he can commit a patriotic felony for the good of us all or else we are screwed.

4. I wonder why RP thinks Texas wouldn't welcome a fence around the state?

Probably a moat and machine gun emplacements at the check points too.

Perhaps large screen high definition monitors running a continuous loop of the fuckheadedness that inspired the Rude Pundit could be installed as well, just so some of the slower coaches don't miss it.

It's disappointing that so called, "Progressives", prefer to attack a whole state and ALL it's people, rather than try to do something about it. We get a steady diet of RW freaks trying to "out Tea Party the Tea Party, but no other message other than what Wendy Davis is putting out lately. These
people have been hearing only the Right's message, the DNC being AWOL! Howard Dean made a big difference for awhile with his 50 state strategy, until he was thrust out. A Blue Texas would put a lock on the White House! If the DNC would help with recruiting candidates and backing them enough to have someone point out to constituents of Louie Gomert, what a corrupt, idiot the man really is.

Many of us work hard here in Texas to get people registered to vote. Things are changing here despite low level of outside help. The Districts are really gerrymandered which helps to explain a Louie Gomert in Tyler, Texas, it also takes more work and money to counter steady wash of Red media we get basted in.

Or not, just be juvenile and negative, but you probable would enjoy The Discussionist more.

I understand the packing of the Districts. Tom DeLay did a first rate job of fucking the state over. Yet, Texas keeps electing doorknobs like Rick Perry in state-wide contests. I have heard over the years how Texas is trending Democratic, and I really want it to be true. But winning offices, not losing 52-48 when Democrats used to lose 55-45, is the measure of the trend. If Wendy Davis wins the governorship, I'll be as heartened as anyone. But Davis, a credible candidate, is trailing yet another doorknob by double digits.

little to spend. Our state gets no love from the DNC because we are not a swing state. It's difficult to be a swing state without the money to offset. We have vast untapped swaths of people that would traditionally vote Democrat if we could reach them somehow. We should be seeing commercials right now for people to check their licenses and voter's registration, they must match with your current address. We have until 10/6 to register, but you wouldn't know it by watching TV. It's bad enough to live in the same state as a Louie Gomert and some of these other like (empty) minded dumbasses, but to be written off, despite my beliefs, just for living here is the rudest slap of all!
