The white elephant in the room is that the GOP is completely and totally racist from top to bottom. Yet no one calls them on it public, bluntly and loudly. All their messages end up in the same place. Dems, progressives and liberal give your money to blacks. They are all about race resentment every step of the way.
Attacks on the poor, unemployed, vulnerable and Americans on needed programs including health care are all code of the same thing. Through the use of neuro linguistic programming techniques they have planted this race hatred deep into the subconscious minds of many whites. Sadly their evil plan has been very successful in that they have been able to conflate any and every programs that even helps a majority of whites. So many voters have been programmed to think that only blacks or other minorities benefit from programs they are on.
Until someone finds a way to break this ugly subconscious mind set nothing will change.

(14,449 posts)No doubt about it. But Conservative minorities like Cruz, Carson, Rice, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Susana Martinez, Nikki Haley and don't forget Allen West. So I am really unsure if that is it or they just hate The Democratic Party and the liberals especially.

(20,760 posts)There's a big chunk of GOP "messaging" that can be traced quite directly to misogyny, regardless of race.
Also regardless of race, homophobia is a big thrill for them.
I will concede, however, that any "two-fer" is a bigger deal, and there's nothing that whips up their "apocalyptic frenzy mode quite as fast as a brown lesbian.
Of course, if she's ALSO an atheist, all bets are off. Take cover.

(12,958 posts)Did not have so much to do with race either. Theirs is a psychopathic ideology. They hate everyone and everything that is different from themselves.

(75,480 posts)I've been trying to tell people this for decades. It's one of the reasons creeps like Rush Limbaugh and news places like Fox News are so popular. Their whole message is race baiting and misogyny.

(211 posts)The racism behind that message?
There probably are other examples, but I'm too tired to think of them now.
I understand we are preaching to the choir on DU. I guess that's a good thing, because if your opening argument is that the opposition has not one redeeming value in anything they say and do...that nothing for which they advocate comes from a place of sincerity....it's probably a given that you won't convince anyone on the other side (or an awful lot of independents either) to consider the merits of our point of view.

(27,275 posts)though the koch brothers and the MSM keep telling us otherwise. we don't have to convince a bunch of ignorant hateful cretins to vote for Democrats, we need to get the people who do not vote to vote. and NO there is nothing positive or redeeming about republicons or their idiot cousins, the teabaggers. moderate republicans are tired of the crazy wing of the party, and some of them may defect to our side. but the hard-core right, especially the so-called religious ones, will never vote for Democrats...unless they are indistinguishable from republicons. and we don't need any more of them.

(889 posts)Noir, you say that the hard-core right will never vote for Democrats. And that's very true. It is a waste of time to even try talking to them.
But mostlyconfused is also correct. Moderate Republicans do come up with decent ideas, once in a blue moon. As mostlyconfused mentioned, Rand Paul is trying to rein in the NSA.
And Eisenhower's farewell speech about the military-industrial complex was an excellent warning for us all.
The problem with the original post's title was the word "every". Replace that word with "many" or even "most", and you've got an argument that Republican moderates and independents might listen to.
As you said Noir, there are moderate Republicans (and independents) who are sick of the GOP's crazy wing. They are tired of seeing their children working two part-time jobs while company presidents make 200 million dollars a year.
We can, and should, reach out to those moderates and independents, not insult them. We might now be in the majority. Genuine converts can only increase that majority.

(27,275 posts)it is one of the glues that holds the illusions/delusions together. the illusion of america as a meritocracy, for example, which is absolutely ludicrous. how can you step on someone's head, then take of running, and claim you won the race on merit?

(8,224 posts)but once they were defanged, the Rs had to move on. Reagan offered "welfare queens" and "liberals" as a substitute. They added "terrorists" to the arsenal after 9/11.
The R side of politics has been us vs them for at least a century, at least since the end of the Roosevelt (teddy) admin.
It is bred in them down to the bone. It will always be us vs them, the only question is just who "them" will be from time to time.
