President Obama has faced three times as many threats as previous presidents, reports the Washington Post. The number comes from "people briefed on the Secret Service's threat assessment" and it makes the rest of the Post's story all the more disturbing.
On November 11, 2011, Oscar Ortega-Hernandez pulled up to the front gate of the White House, aimed a Romanian-made Cugir semiautomatic rifle at the residence, and fired. At least seven of his shots hit the White House. Sasha Obama was in the residence at the time. Malia Obama was on her way home. The attack was brazen enough that it was literally live-tweeted. "Driver in front of my cab, STOPPED and fired 5 gun shots at the White House," wrote one bystander.
But, as the Post reports, the Secret Service's response was a disaster. Agents were told to stand down, that it was just a car backfiring. Later, the story was changed to gang members shooting at each other just outside the White House. Agents who believed the shots had been fired at the residence were afraid to contradict their superiors. The truth was only discovered when a housekeeper noticed broken glass on the Truman Balcony. Ortega-Hernandez was only captured because he crashed his car.

(32,068 posts)I wish someone in the Congressional hearing would ask the Director about this. Either this is true or false. I would like someone under oath to give an answer.

(32,068 posts)The SS makes a denial and someone on the internet says without linking something else. What is the truth?

(11,065 posts)A housekeeper finding "broken glass" means that whatever this glass was it wasn't from a broken window, and there being no one saying there was a broken window (which can't happen because the windows in the White House are bulletproof Plexiglas) then we also know whatever this "broken glass" was not a window.
The SS says that there were no shots fired at the White House, and I'd like to know where any info to the contrary came from. There's a good reason MSM hasn't reported anything about this... there's no indication that it occurred. Whoever the president is anyone shooting at the White House would be huge news. Hell, anyone that just tried to hop the fence is always huge news. Whatever some nobody says on twitter is hardly a reliable source.
There are also snipers on the roof of the White House 24/7. No one can get off one round without the snipers homing in and firing back... which didn't happen in this case.
Further, where were all the 911 calls from other people in the area that also witnessed someone shooting at the White House? Or are we to believe whoever this nobody on twitter is just magically was the only car anywhere in the vicinity in an area of the city that never sleeps?
I really don't think it's that difficult to figure out the truth.

(32,068 posts)It has been reported that Obama has received "three times the number of threats" as other Presidents. The SS has denied that. That is what I would like to have answered once and for all.

(82,383 posts)Reagan was shot in the 80s. Now there is a much better system in place. But it's still remarkable there are more threats.

(9,796 posts)except how extreme and racist the right has gotten. It's the screwed-up response to a couple of recent incidents that matters.
