He said they were fierce soldiers. That's anecdotal evidence they were fierce but there lots of historical evidence too...

I just saw a story on the Press TV website which says the Turkish parliament is debating it tomorrow. They want to join the coalition against ISIS.

was talking about implementing a no fly zone to protect the "innocent" civilians terrorized by Syrian Air force on the UN floor. Turkey has the same goal as ISIS and that is the removal of Assad. I wouldn't be surprised if they joined the coalition of Syrian govt enemies bombing Syria now

current leader is more sympathetic to fundamentalists.

It was or is one of Erdogan's pet projects. It wouldn't exist without his personal say-so. That kidnapping of Turkish Diplomats was just Street Theater for public consumption.
