And I don't get it either.

But, Bruce Braley has come out on top in hard races before and from what I've seen, there hasn't been a lot of advertising on his behalf so far.

She is a nutbag though. Really, really crazy.

5. Ernst has negative ads all over the place...

I don't watch network TV, but friends have said there are a ton of anti-Braley ads running.

Every time I watch a YouTube video, I see an anti-Braley ad before my video starts. Every. Time.

It's all about the $ right now.

that had mostly educated, enlightened voters. I was wrong. Recent trends indicate to me that they weren't' very far ahead of the
crazy states.

Ernst's numbers have gone nowhere throughout the race. Braley's have been up and down depending on the poll - there was a Q poll that seems to be an outlier.
Almost makes me wonder more about the polling methods. Absentee balloting and early voting seems to greatly favor Dems.

Interesting point - I talked with a friend who was at a meeting in Western (republican) Iowa. He said there are few ads on TV over there and mostly the Joni Ernst "Gee, I'm a mother and an Iowan just like you" ads. Here in the Eastern part we are getting the nastiest anti-Braley ads the Kochs can buy.
He said that he was told that the strategy is to hammer eastern Iowa with negativity to try to keep the voting down. Once more it is a question of getting out the vote.

Where are the ads hammering Ernst for being from the sovereign citizen camp?
Where are the ads hammering her for saying a woman with an ectopic pregnancy should bleed to death?

Here is an idea Bruce:

....I agree with your assessment of Ernst's numbers, she is stuck at 45%. Braley's numbers have been all over the chart. There has to be an explanation for this.

The Fox News demographic.

Western Iowa is really just eastern Nebraska politically. That's where Steve King reigns supreme.

I just can't believe how much traction Ernst seems to be getting. I always thought we were a fairly balanced state with one Democratic and one Republican senator. I just can't see how the state that voted to keep Tom Harkin around for so long would replace him with this person.

The "chicken" episode is being played up a lot by the Republicans. Bruce (I can call him by his first name since I know him personally) insists he never threatened to sue the chicken lady, but only went to the homeowner association to get a clarification on the rules about livestock. I grew up on a farm and am very aware of what chickens leave behind...no bare feet unless you don't mind stepping in it. I would also be upset to have chickens free ranging on my property. The one article I read from a newspaper quoted Chicken Lady as agreeing to keep them penned up when confronted about the association requirements. But then she added something about "Except when the Braley's weren't there to see if they were still penned up. That didn't seem very neighborly of her either!
