Couple in animal 'crush' videos get life term

A La Union court has handed down a guilty verdict against a couple who allegedly produced a series of "crush videos" where scantily clad girls stepped on and crushed animals to death.

In a statement, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said the San Fernando Regional Trial Court Branch 30 found guilty Dorma Ridon and her husband, Vicente Ridon, of child abuse (Republic Act 7610), animal welfare crimes (RA 8485), human trafficking (RA 9208), and wildlife-protection crimes (RA 9147).

The Ridons, who have been in jail since June 2012, were sentenced to life imprisonment. They were also ordered to pay P9 million.

"This case is a victory not just for PETA Asia but also for Philippine law enforcement and people around the world who despise cruelty to animals," said PETA Asia Vice President Jason Baker.

and I think this falls into that category. Anyone who would harm an animal like this, and then "share" the experience with others, I don't trust what else they would do. Prison is a good place for them.

I don't understand the marketing of this, either. Where is the demand for such as this? can.not.comprehend.

stake them to the ground, put a pole into the ground and chain an elephant to it who would walk around the pole in decreasing circles spiralling into the pole as the chain wrapped around the pole eventually stepping on the assholes. Let them feel what it is like waiting to be crushed.

Sorry, always felt that the punishment should fit the crime.

Personally, I like to think that we in a civilized society are better than the criminals. Call me a "bleeding heart liberal" but I support appropriate prison sentences to be served in safe, humane conditions.

They were also found guilty and sentenced for child abuse and human trafficking.

PETA makes it sound as if the animal welfare and protection crimes were the most egregious
charges resulting in a life sentence.

R.A. 9208, specifically criminalizes trafficking for the purposes of exploitation. The punished overt acts include trafficking under the guise of arranged marriage, adoption, sex tourism, prostitution, pornography, or the recruitment of children into armed conflict. Trafficking of children is made a “qualified” offense, and higher penalties of life imprisonment and a fine of 2 million to 5 million pesos (USD 36,085 to 90,212) are imposed. Use of services of trafficked persons is penalized by 15 years imprisonment and a fine of 500,000 to 1 million pesos. Additional penalties are provided for government employees offenders. Sec 10 (c) provides for the maximum penalty for qualified trafficking under Section 6: life imprisonment and a fine of not less than 2 million pesos (P2,000,000.00) but not more than 5 million pesos (P5,000,000.00).

Other prisoners are saints compared to them. I actually fear for the Other prisoners' safety. I mean, selling weed really doesn't compare. Yes, there are different security levels, but far too much mixing, and they can get to minimum security after a few years of good behavior.
People just forget about what happens in prison, as though it didn't exist. But there are people there, even some innocent people. Some of the worst are still on the outside. How much does it take to outwit law enforcement?
There are outlaws, and then there are the evil.
Think about it.
