Stupidest idea for a bar I've ever seen!

Now that's *IF* this is true.

I mean, haven't these idiots ever heard of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome?

The self-proclaimed ‘first bar for pregnant women’ is here

Beer belly — or baby bump?

A storefront in the East Village is billing itself as the city’s “first bar for pregnant women.”

Gestations at Fifth Street and Avenue A proclaims, “All you mothers-to-be should come check out our trimester specials and our 9-month happy hour because now you’re drinking for two!”

Its Facebook page — which features a pregnant lady popping a bottle of bubbly — claims that expectant mamas are the perfect clients because they can fit more booze in their stomachs.

“The bigger the belly, the more you can drink. True for men and pregnant women #gestationsny,” it declares.

1. Did you read to the end? They haven’t even applied for a liquor license.

“They’re saying it’s a bar, but they haven’t applied for a liquor license. At this point it’s nothing .?.?. Maybe it’s going to be a milk bar or a juice bar,” she said.

4. Not me. Since busybodies won't serve pregnant women a glass of wine with dinner

it would be nice if they could find places that would serve them without some ignorant moron getting all huffy and patronizing.

FAS is extremely rare, even among heavily drinking alcoholic women, it's something like 5% of their children. It's tragic because it's preventable, but the incidence has been way overblown.

No adult has a right to criticize another adult's choices unless s/he is that person's doctor.

I am 64 and I guess that a lot of my generation were gestated by smoking drinking mothers. I do know that myself and sisters were carried by a woman who drank (not excessively) and smoked heavily. Our birth weights were normal, all of us have higher than normal intelligence and none of us are republicans.

True this is anecdotal, but your statement isn't even that- just snark.

everybody was gestated by moms who were shitfaced drunk because wine and beer were the only safe beverages.

All the elder generation in my own family were heavy smokers and moderate drinkers and you're right, there are only 2 Republicans out of 22 in my generation. Their siblings consider them brain damaged.

It's often the right thing to do to criticise a friend's choices if they're endangering themselves or others.

It's often the right thing to do to criticise a stranger's choices if they're endangering others.

It's occasionally even the right thing to do to criticise a stranger's choices if they're endangering themself, but much more rarely.

10. There is imminent danger when you're confiscating a drunk's car keys.

However, this is not the case when you're criticizing a pregnant woman who only wants a glass of wine with dinner. This is inappropriate, rude, and patronizing. Knock it off.

9. No I think that gun range and bar in Oklahoma City still wins that title.

Not that I'm saying this one isn't equally horrible, the idea of combining guns and booze doesn't sound like it's going to end well.
