(22,878 posts)I am way out in Iowa.. but the drought area has been in our thoughts and prayers.. hope it is a soaking easy rain that lasts and kills the fires but does not flood the burned areas..

(50,566 posts)I grew up in the Bay Area and remember a couple awful droughts -- especially the one in the mid-70s where we were rationing water. It's so disturbing when everything is brown and dead and the lakes are down to nothing.
Now I live in the Northwest where we generally have no rain shortage. When it's gray and drizzly for days on end I think back on those brown drought days and make myself appreciate all the moisture (moss, giant slugs and all!).

Went out this morning to walk the dogs, and everything was wet and looking refreshed. And it had that fresh, rain washed smell!

(32,882 posts)The state where fires are burning and that is fantastic news, there is no rain falling in the very driest part of the state where food is grown. Central California desperately needs rain.
