FBI releases report on "active shooters" since 2000

WASHINGTON, D.C. — An FBI study released Wednesday of 160 “active shooter” incidents from 2000 to 2013 shows a steady increase in the number of shootings, and noted that all but six of the shooters were male.

~snip~

During the first seven years of the study, which began early this year, an average of six "active shooter" incidents occurred annually in the United States, the FBI said. That number increased to more than 16 incidents per year in the last seven years of the study.

“This trend reinforces the need to remain vigilant regarding prevention efforts and for law enforcement to aggressively train to better respond to — and help communities recover from — active shooter incidents,” the FBI said.

A total of 486 people were killed and 557 were wounded, with the shootings occurring in 40 of 50 states and the District of Columbia. Shootings that were related to gang or drug activity were not included.

More guns in the hands of the population at large = good for business

More guns in the hands of the population at large = more shootings

More shootings = easier to justify increased armament of police departments = even better for business

4. I don't understand why they exclude gang related shootings that would otherwise meet the criteria.

I suspect law enforcement considers that business as usual or those data would paint a different picture of the active shooting trend.
