Detroit City Council has votes to remove Kevyn Orr as EM, 'move forward,' Andre Spivey claims

DETROIT, MI -- The Detroit City Council's vote to decide if Kevyn Orr should be stripped of his powers as emergency manager could come as early as Thursday, a council member told a local radio station Tuesday.

Andre Spivey said Tuesday morning in an appearance on WJR 760 AM's "The Frank Beckmann Show" that he supports such a move and is confident the six votes needed to do it are already in place.

"Obviously, my vote is there to remove Kevin," Spivey told Beckman. "I think we do have those votes. We're ready to move forward. We knew the 18 months would be very hard."

Spivey mentioned, however, that council's vote on Orr's powers could be delayed and Orr's time extended because Detroit's bankruptcy case is still being discussed in court before U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes.
