In an act of unconscionable stupidity and tone deafness, an officer was (allegedly) found to be wearing an I am Darren Wilson bracelet. It is one of those plastic/rubber bracelets that have become popular with people who are trying to make people aware of their cause.
Which leads me to assume that there are a lot more people who have and/or are wearing the bracelets.

Yeah - too long for a bracelet. Just use the short version. "Darren Wilson".

(14,733 posts)All those 'I am Spartacus' types got crucified right along with Spartacus after the rebellion, iirc. The roads to Rome were lined with crucified rebellious slaves for miles.

(14,733 posts)When people do the 'I am Spartacus' bit, they're invoking that particular historical incident. In the actual historical incident, we would obviously see the slaves to have been in the right. In modern instances, far more often, it is the oppressors who invoke the incident while pretending to be the oppressed. As is the case here. Guy murders unarmed teen, 'I am Spartacus' is pulled by those identifying with the killer, as if 'Darren Wilson' were the victim here.

(12,778 posts)I'm also willing to wait for the facts and let the legal system sort it out.

(14,733 posts)Most of us know by now that 'legal' often does not mean the same as 'just', and that the 'sorting out' that occurs doesn't always depend upon the 'facts'.

(17,997 posts)That's pretty much exactly what I said at the "I am Darren Wilson" rally. The Spartacus reference. Not the rest.

(17,997 posts)No matter what they believe about the shooting or their need to support their "brother" a kid was killed. Showing support in this manner is just disgusting

Yeah, I know that won't fit on a bracelet.

(6,592 posts)So would "I kill black people."
Maybe someone could make some of those bracelets & send them to the Ferguson PD?
And ... I guess this guy is volunteering to take all the hatred, distain, & utter disgust (& potential retaliation?) so many feel for Wilson.

(6,362 posts)...have a couple dozen "I kill black people" bracelets made and send them to the Ferguson PD. Short, sweet, and to the point. And they provide a warning (kind of like the bio-hazard red bags in the doctors office) because let's face it, for young black males most cops are a bio-hazard.
Unfortunately, given the state of American police forces nationwide, I'm sure there are many more police forces that could use these too.
