If the estimate is correct, that would make it the largest climate march in history.

Organizers of the People's Climate March estimate more than 310,000 marched through the streets of New York in support of climate action. The crowd was so large that many waited for hours before they could start walking. The march stretched for around 50 city blocks. If the estimate is correct, that would make this event the largest climate march in history.

Probably much larger than 310k-- but even at that the biggest protest about anything in America in a very long time

Greens: Climate march shatters record
Al Gore, Leonardo DiCaprio and U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon joined a larger-than-expected throng of activists, scientists, students and elected officials who took to New York City’s streets Sunday for a massive march meant to sound the alarm about climate change.

Organizers estimated that the march drew 310,000 people, far exceeding their projections of 100,000 attendees and making the procession through midtown Manhattan by far the largest climate-related protest in history.

300,000 + March
More than 300,000 people turned out for the People's Climate March in New York City on Sunday, just days before many of the world's leaders are expected to debate environmental action at the United Nations climate summit.

Early reports from event organizers are hailing the turnout as the largest climate march in history, far bigger than the Forward on Climate rally held in Washington, D.C., last year. High-profile environmentalists including Bill McKibben, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jane Goodall and Vandana Shiva marched alongside policymakers such as Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.). U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and former Vice President Al Gore were also there, and more than 550 buses carried in people from around the country.

More than 300,000 people turned out today for the People's Climate March in New York City, making it the largest recorded demonstration calling for a response to climate change. The marchers just hope someone was paying attention.

"It was a really inspiring experience," Gideon Wolf, 21, of Washington D.C. said. "I hope politicians see what we did here."

(snip)
"It was packed with so many people," said Laura Maranto, 22, of New York, N.Y. "Even when the front of the march had reached the end, there were still people waiting, they hadn't even begun to march."
