there is no way Obama cannot choose to bomb ISIS. politically that is a giant disaster waiting to happen. Like, anything they do next would be blamed on his inaction. I think he literally has zero political choice in the matter.
However, I also think that bombing ISIS will be to no avail, even if we succeed in getting rid of them, we'll just have a different group with a different name unless we/the world solves the issues that started ISIS.

(725 posts)attack Israel, Jordan, Turkey and the Gulf kingdoms? Oh, that's right, they won't because they're a USA creation and only do what's beneficial for the US (attack Syria, bring chaos in Iraq to provide a pretext to re-occupy).
The house voted to send military aid to the FSA, today. The FSA is as closely associated with ISIS as Sam's Club is with Walmart. THEY'RE THE SAME DAMN PEOPLE.

(725 posts)What was that even about? Was it awarded in the hope that he would advance some European agenda or what? I never could make sense of it.

(12,799 posts)When we examine the reasons underlying that reality, it leaves us with exactly one tool to confront violent factions, and endless war is the outcome. Who does that benefit? Not me, not you and not the civilians who are dieing because we continue to bomb them to kingdom come.
Our hands are tied because we can't be perceived as soft on terrorism. So we will wage war until we have bankrupted ourselves. Inevitable? I think you have made that argument. Good plan? I don't think so.

White House forced to consider unilateral strikes against Assad after British PM unexpectedly loses key motion on intervention
Barack Obama's plans for air strikes against Syria were thrown into disarray on Thursday night after the British parliament unexpectedly rejected a motion designed to pave the way to authorising the UK's participation in military action.
The White House was forced to consider the unpalatable option of taking unilateral action against the regime of Bashar al-Assad after the British prime minister, David Cameron, said UK would not now take part in any military action in response to a chemical attack in the suburbs of Damascus last week.

(51,076 posts)what needs to happen is find out who is funding these kinds of groups and deal with them first. They don't appear out of clear air, someone or something is funding these people, who are they is the biggest question, IMHO
A good place to begin is to stop this dark money to the cia and fbi. No more giving them a blank check. someone in our government needs to be keeping tabs on all the funding they get and how they're using it. Not saying thats where the money is coming from but as long as they operate in the dark the possibility is there.
