I find it bizarre that people brag about this kind of thing.
"I most definitely discipline my daughter. I have a 1-year-old daughter, and I discipline her. Obviously, every person is different, and I definitely will use my best judgement to discipline her depending on the situation and what happens. I definitely will try to obviously not leave bruises or anything like that on her, but I definitely will discipline her, harshly, depending on what the situation is."

(32,046 posts)Thanks to his misdeeds, he had to give back his Heisman, and USC had to forfeit its 2004 national championship! And he thinks he can tell others to behave?

(23,156 posts)What a lovely manifestation of Christian Compassion.
When my kids were little and they ran around and climbed on things and fell and the like, I was constantly amazed at how rarely they bruised. Every so often it made me think about how hard someone had to hit a kid, or with what, to raise serious bruises.
Yes, I do know some people bruise more easily than others -- I've always bruised pretty easily myself -- but still.
And yeah, my kids occasionally broke something or needed a couple of stitches, but not because of anything I ever did to them.

(52,286 posts)at the age of 50, i can get a bruise on my legs from crossing them sometimes, and it can take a couple weeks to heal.
mini-unblock has to bang his leg hard on a rock or something to get a bruise, and it's gone within 48 hours.

(82,849 posts)But where is Reggie Bush claiming this is a "manifestation of Christian Compassion"? Maybe he's Wiccan or Rastafarian, or simply an asshole who thinks that physically abusing a 1-year-old girl is justified.
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)But it is often people who call themselves Christians who use that to justify child abuse.

(19,339 posts)One of my kids was very pale with blue undertones and bruised easily through active play. A doctor (not our usual one) commented lightly on it in passing once. The other kid had darker skin and as far as I remember almost never bruised. Both were equally very active.

(5,842 posts)Most 1 years olds are likely to be doing nothing more nefarious/reckless than eating dirt or bugs off the floor.
I would think the infant's physical reaction to either would pretty much cover any punishment.

(46,436 posts)When I was down visiting with my one-year-old granddaughter last month, she had a tendency to let loose with the screams whenever mom or dad wasn't around. The guy in the apartment next door would scream "WHAT THE FUCK??" at the top of his lungs through the wall. (He probably would have been a hitter, except he's apparently a bitter old bachelor...good thing). I found that if I took her outside and walked around with her for a while, she'd quiet right down.
Some people just can't stand the sound of a baby yelling.
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)here is the very thin walls between those apartments.
Someone else's taste in music can be very annoying in such circumstances.
But doing what you can to quiet the little one is the most appropriate response.

(46,436 posts)He also muttered under his breath (but loud enough for the kids to hear it), "I HATE those kids," when the three- and five-year-old were out on the sidewalk quietly playing with the snails. Like I said, obviously a man who doesn't care for children, no matter how well-behaved.
