Has Anyone Here Suggested that Warren or Sanders Should Not Run?

I can't remember seeing anyone express that opinion. I might have missed it, though. I've seen people suggest that their chances of winning the nomination during the 2016 primaries are slim to low, but everyone seems clear that they should run if they want to run. Personally, I'd welcome either or both of them in the primary races, along with anyone else who wants to throw his or her hat into the ring. I like both of them and could see myself voting for them in the Minnesota primary.

That's where the eventual candidate gets chosen, after all. Whichever candidate manages to win enough primaries will end up as the nominee after the convention. And whichever candidate becomes the Democratic candidate for President will get my vote and my support during the campaign leading up to the November election. Until then, it's an open race.

Since nobody has declared yet, we still have no idea who will be actively seeking the Democratic nomination. I expect people to begin announcing their candidacy shortly after the mid-term elections this year. If Elizabeth Warren and/or Bernie Sanders are among them, I'll be interested to hear their positions on a wide range of issues, from economic to foreign policy and everything in between.

So, I don't think anyone on DU is opposed to their candidacies. That's not how our system works. Everyone can run. The one who comes out on top after the primaries will be the Democratic nominee and should have our support. I can see no earthly reason to snipe at each other over a primary race that still has no candidates at all. It makes no sense. It's divisive and unproductive to do that, and at a time when we should all be working to regain Democratic control of Congress. President Obama could use a Congress that will send him bills that make a difference. I'd like to give him that help.

Whoever it is the eventual Democratic nominee can count on my support, that's for sure, but I don't know yet who that will be. In the meantime, let everyone who wishes declare and we'll see what happens. In the meantime, there's an election in less than two months. There's a lot of work to be done.

1. Well, in all honesty I HAVE seen some suggesting that ...

but always in the context of Sanders not running as an independent.

(Does that make a difference?)

2. Well, I'd hope that Sanders runs as a Democrat if he runs.

Without his participation in the primary debates, he won't get much of an audience, and he's not really all that well known nationwide. I doubt that he'll run any other way than as a Democrat, but that's his choice, of course. In any case, he can decide what he wants to do on his own, I'd think. He's a very smart person and very politically savvy.

I have to leave my computer soon for about three hours. I'll check back in after that time and respond to replies. I hate to leave, but it's time for me to take care of some domestic responsibilities. See you all a bit later.

If you'd like to suggest that to her, I suppose you can look up how to contact her. I think everyone who wants to run should run, and let the voters sort it out in the primaries.

6. Yes. I know that just about everyone has decided that Clinton has a lock on the nomination.

Personally, I wouldn't want to be the one to ask her to step back from the nomination. She might get a bit pissy.

gives a fig what I think about whether or not to run. I doubt that anyone on DU has any influence on any of the possible candidates, frankly. So, I doubt she'd get "pissy," as you put it.

Actually there have been several people expressing that opinion. Usually the context is "I believe that so and so serves us far better by remaining in the Senate" or the like. It's quite common really, not sure how you missed it.

13. Even if he runs, his Senate term won't be on the line.

That shouldn't affect his decision at all.

Implied rather than suggested, but as long as one isn't playing games, the result is the same.

The end of the Obama Adminstration is in sight, and many people here are getting itchy about who will replace him in the White House. That used to be the province of political junkies on Sunday talking heads shows, but it's filtered down to the masses, and we're all in suspense over who will be sworn in on January 20, 2017, which is less than two and a half years away. That's a really long time for kids, but for us grownups, it's just around the corner.

Yes, we will all fall in line behind whoever is opposing the GOPer, but we have to have this sort of cleansing process before we get there. While I hope for all the best in November of this year, I steel myself to the possible shutdown of the accomplishment of any progress for the next couple of years, to me that's the most likely scenario.
