Wales reveal they’ve already left UK

(satire)

As the debate over Scottish independence rages, it was revealed today that Wales has used the opportunity to quietly leave the United Kingdom without any fuss.

While Westminster politicians rushed up to Scotland to desperately make the case for the UK, the 3 million citizens of Wales had competently organised a ‘relaxed’ referendum scheduled for a week before. With ‘Yes’ winning with 98% of the vote, the result comes into effect immediately.

“It’s not like we didn’t warn you,” said Carwyn Jones, First Minister of the Welsh Assembly. “We held three TV debates and huge campaigns across Wales. A man from The Guardian told us he was going to write something about it, but I guess he never got round to it. It must be pretty busy in London, I’m sure!”

In contrast with the vaguely-sketched plans for Scottish independence, Wales had already sorted everything out with the EU well in advance and become a full member as of today. “We’re using the Euro as well, so the currency’s not an issue,” said Jones. “We also worked out all the other bureaucracy, so you don’t need to worry about that. Although if you’re interested, it’s all publicly available online, as it has been since we wrote to the House of Commons telling them our plans in 2012.”

“I did try and get a meeting with the Queen to tell her in person,” he added. “But the men at security refused to let me in. They said they’d never even heard of the Welsh Assembly.”

I come from a family of Welsh coal miners. I now own the family copy of 'How Green Was My Valley'. It taught me a lot about the people I come from.

9. My 2nd cousin had the family history - I've lost track of him

From what my Father remembered, he tracked back quite a historical distance. Next year, after I leave work, I'm going to sign up with a good geneology source and do some major work on a reconstructed family tree. Then, when the area is solidly pin pointed, my brother and I are going to take some of my Father's ashes and spread them in the home land. He always wanted to go to Wales, and it breaks my heart he never made it.

We are only about 2 generations here, so getting the groundwork done shouldn't be very difficult. My great-aunt, who has since pass on, said they spoke Welsh in the household.

I'm also going to check with the church they attended, in Maryland. Hopefully they have records going back that far.

13. I started my research before it was the rage and before everyone was charging for their help.

Ancestry.com will charge about $20 a month and it provides a lot of sources. The church may or may not charge you and may have a lot of info also. Good luck in your search - it is addicting and fun.
