And a several time failed candidate.
He challenged Ted Kennedy for his seat in 1994 and lost... by 17%.
He ran unopposed in 2002 for the GOP nomination in Massachusetts (for governor) and barely won against a weak Democratic nominee... by 4.83%. It should be noted that he was tagged to lose by many polls from the beginning of his campaign.
He ran for president in 2008 and lost in the Republican primary. The stark contrast of his loss can be seen in the popular vote numbers against John McCain... He lost by 24.4%... It should be noted he ONLY got 22.1% of the vote to begin with!

But here is the one that you may have heard of but probably didn't know the extent to... The reason he was a one term governor is that he was handily going to lose a reelection bid. A poll conducted in October of 2005 by the University of Massachusetts put the incumbent Romney as losing by 20% to the state attorney general (and Democrat).

So frankly at what point isn't he compared to Sarah Palin? She's actually won more elections than he has. Her record is 4-2. A 66% average. His is 1-3. A 25% average. She is clearly a more astute politician than he is if able to convince her constituency to elect her four times... including one reelection (of which Romney has none). So I guess what I'm saying is that Sarah Palin clearly has more experience in politics than the presumptive GOP nominee.
Paging Sarah Palin... I think it's about time you enter the race... I know at least that this is what I would like to see.

(2,097 posts)on a board that's all a-flutter about seeing Elizabeth Warren run for president in 2016, 2/3 of the way through her only term in any elected office (assuming she wins), criticizing Romney for being a one-term governor is a bit unseemly.

(18,421 posts)I'm simply mentioning that he has less campaign success than Sarah Palin... Clearly I'm not saying that Romney shouldn't run. Just the same as I wouldn't say Warren shouldn't run. I'm saying that Sarah Palin SHOULD run to shake up the poor dissatisfied GOP and I provided a reasoned argument as to why she should. That is, she has more campaign success than Mitt Romney.

Romney tries to be all things to all people and that's a recipe for pleasing no one. Thank GOD I'm not a Republican and having to choose between losers like they do.

(20,890 posts)his plan is pretty obvious. Use his own wealth and the corporate wealth that backs him to make the election about Obama and basically have as little about him as possible out there. This is basically what Bush did to John Kerry. People were so "worried" about John Kerry's character they voted for someone they thought did a sucky job. It took less than a year for people to figure out they had been fooled by a tactic and Bushes second term was the disaster that was so easy to see coming. Romney basically used the same tactic as Bush did that second term to win this primary and to win the governorship. So I'm pretty sure that team Obama knows what is coming. More important it isn't clear the American people are wising up to the political tactic. It's a long way to November so we will see. I mean it is less than a week since Romney "won" the primary and there appears to be a lot of buyers remorse already on the GOP side.
