CBS has (WISELY) opted to cancel an opening theme song performed by Rihanna during tonight's Thursday Night Football game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens. Instead, the opening will feature comments from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell about Ray Rice. Oh boy, this should be good.
People were not thrilled about the decision to feature a song from Rihanna before a Ravens game. CBS finally decided to cancel the whole thing altogether. Via TMZ:
The opening features Rihanna performing a version of her hit "Run This Town" while Don Cheadle introduces the teams and dramatically asks who will "run this town" when the game is over. But with the Ray Rice scandal in full swing, it's clear CBS didn't want to feature another celebrity who was involved in a high-profile domestic violence incident.
"We thought journalistically and from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone coverage," CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus said in a statement. (The buzzword of the day is "tone," apparently.)
Good; everyone can finally stop cringing. At least until we hear what Goodell actually has to say.

It's wise to punish a DV victim because her appearance would embarrass the NFL? nt

WTH is wrong with people?
She has to suffer professionally because Rice and Brown are violent assholes?
Warning, image of Brown's neck tattoo and Rihanna's battered face.

(20,043 posts)2. I'm pissed that she's being punished for...
being a victim. WTF?
I could see if Chris Brown was scheduled to perform; then yes cancel his performance. Cancelling her makes no sense to me.

(652 posts)5. Chris Brown is such a POS
I feel badly for Rihanna having her performance cut on account of other peoples' terrible behavior.
This story isn't going away, and I'm glad that DV is finally seeing the condemnation and contempt it deserves.

in a misogynistic society.
WTH, punish a battered woman because she was a battered woman. This country is fucked beyond recognition.
