Democrat Jim Sherow won the endorsement of Traditional Republicans for Common Sense in his campaign to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Huelskamp.

Sherow "is the best qualified candidate," the organization said in a statement released Tuesday.

Traditional Republicans for Common Sense endorse candidates they believe "will promote practical solutions to our many problems rather than promoting a certain political 'party label,'" the release said. Last week, Traditional Republicans for Common Sense leaders announced support for independent Greg Orman, challenging Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts in the Senate contest.

Many members of Traditional Republicans for Common Sense also have endorsed House Minority Leader Paul Davis, D-Lawrence, who is running against Republican Gov. Sam Brownback
