(17,865 posts)Blame Rice's lawyer for not presenting the tape to the NFL at the time. That gave the NFL cover for plausible denial ability. Blame the NFL for making you sit next to Rice when you told your story to them. Of course blame mostly your husband for throwing a vicious punch to your face and dragging you around like a sack of potatoes.
I don't know how long the marriage will last, but as far as marital property goes - I don't think Rice has earned a cent since the wedding day, and it is unlikely he will earn much in the near term. I wonder how that will play if a divorce does happen. She might want to consider a civil suit for the assault against her person.

(13,468 posts)We need more discussion of this than some of the crap floating around out there.

(20,043 posts)No one needed to see this video. No one. This could have been kept private. The NFL & Ravens organization could have reviewed this without the media and public needing to see this.
This woman had to live this awful thing all over again; all the accusations, all the nastiness, all the blaming etc. We don't need to see everything. Contrary to popular belief they are entitled to their privacy. She's right--it's THEIR life. People need to get their own and stop passing judgment on theirs.
You can bring this issue to light without having to humiliate her over and over again. It's done every day.
Like vultures over a dead carcass. Sickening.

(35,015 posts)Everyone needs to see this video to understand the brutality of what happened, and that this sort of scenario happens daily hundreds of times over in relationships across the country. If you've never been beaten and have never seen it, you don't understand what it's like. Unfortunately Janay has the face the public scrutiny it's causing.
I really think it will be a good thing in the long run, because it shows what physical abuse looks like.

(34,108 posts)Once he cold-cocked her like that it becomes everyone's problem. It is a crime.
And, if one woman sees this and says "that's going to be me one day and I need to get out now" then it was worth to release the video.
she doesn't deserve her privacy. She should be humiliated repeatedly. What's next rape videos cuz you know...it's a crime and all.

(17,651 posts)Or man if the situation was reversed.
At sometime some one has to send the message that it's not ok, it's not acceptable under any cirumstance and if professional sports players don't have enough commonsense to know better on their own, than they need to be taught there will be repercussions from the fans, teams and leagues they represent.
It stops being a private affair when the behavior occurs in public. It's no longer one person's word against the other and no longer a dirty little secret.
She needs treatment and so does he. Seriously.

(3,212 posts)If leaving him will make her homeless, she needs help with life's necessities for her and her child, and help getting on her feet. That will be hard to do if her friends and "supporters" are other NFL wives and girlfriends.
If she stays because she is emotionally weak, she needs help. (No doubt, aided by her abuser.) Again, that will be difficult if her friends and supporters are other NFL wives and girlfriends.
But if she's staying for the money, then she's beyond help. God bless her, and hope she gets her head screwed on right. Again, that's going to be difficult depending on who she is surrounding herself with.
We may never know her circumstances, and it's none of our business, but what I want to know is "When is his ass going to jail?"

(17,651 posts)Hell I remember when a baller was sent to prison for cruelty to dogs, not humans.
It's all bad even worse that there's a child involved.
I don't even know what to say..

(4,465 posts)That tells you all you need to know about her mindset, very sad. That note could be read as a plea for help- her husband probably is embarrassed and angry which could lead to her being further abused.
I feel for this woman.

(95,337 posts)Clearly when she says it was an incident that 'we regret' that she somehow still feels she is to be blamed for him knocking her unconscious.
Maybe in a few years she'll finally realize that what happened was not her fault and she'll will get the help she needs to get away from this monster.

(35,015 posts)I know, I've been there. It makes me so sad to read her post and know that she needs someone to blame for the mess, but not her husband. She is still protecting the man that not only knocked her out, but treated her like an animal by dragging her on the floor with her skirt up around her waist. I am not judging her because I was in the same boat once, I completely understand and I wish like hell she'd stop protecting him.
Ray Rice deserves every bit of backlash he gets. No one has taken anything away from him, he did it to himself.
Unfortunately Janay and her family are caught up in it as well.

(35,015 posts)When I think about that part of my life now, it's as if I was a completely different person. I always put his needs ahead of mine and defended him no matter what he did. I wish every woman in such a situation can find a way to free herself.

(3,212 posts)Heck, her abuser could have written it.
Or their publicist.
Because they have an income to protect! He still has millions (fifteen million alone in signing bonus).
Lex
(34,108 posts)it's all our fault. We all "took something away" from him wrongfully. It's not that HE brought this on himself.

(416 posts)There's a ton of denial going on there...I hope she gets the help she needs before he beats her again...and again...and again...
So the media & unwanted options have caused pain, but not his fist to your face?
"We" regret it everyday? Why on earth would you regret ANYTHING other than getting in that elevator with your abuser?
I don't think she's stupid, I don't think she's an idiot...i think she needs help...fast...because as far as Ray Rice is concerned, the only thing he did wrong was get caught...
I guarantee you that this isn't the first time he's done this, and it sure as hell won't be the last as long as she stays...
