Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that Israel fought in Gaza for 50 days, shouldnt be allowed to remain in control of the strip, according to Israeli Foreign Minister, Avigdor Liberman.
They will continue to manufacture and smuggle weapons, Liberman told journalists today in Jerusalem. Any cease-fire, in my opinion, will be limited in time.
Israel and Hamas agreed to stop more than seven weeks of fighting on Aug. 26 after mediation from Egypt, with indirect talks on pending issues, including demands from Hamas for a seaport and an airport, to resume within a month.
About 2,100 Palestinians, including hundreds of civilians, died in the fighting. Seventy-two people were killed on the Israeli side, among them 67 soldiers -- the highest number since Israels 2006 war in Lebanon.
