The stolen celebrity photos

I see a lot of people stating with some authority how insecure the cloud is (or other peoples hard drives).

I'd just like to set the record straight--cause facts are fun.

Initially it was thought that it was a vulnerability in Apple's "find my iphone" app (and it still could have been) but that vulnerability was fixed a few days before the photos were disseminated. According to this article, Apple is working with authorities to help figure out what happened.

Ok, have a few. One of the celebs has stated the photos leaked of her were deleted several years ago. Others have also said the photos leaked were years old, although I haven't seen if they said they were long since removed. People who move in circles closer to the leakers have suggested that many of the photos have been traded around on 'the dark net' for a couple of years as proof of 'uber leetness', and only just came out to the rest of the world now because one person suddenly decided he could make money off of them using bitcoin transactions, and several others then joined in, leaking for bitcoins before their collections became 'worthless'. So it really doesn't look like it matters much that apple fixed a vulnerability 'several days' before the leaks, because the pics were stolen over a span of years, apparently. They just didn't get dumped until recently.
