but I am confused as to what "other medications" you are referring to. Are these other medications also marijuana-related? Or are they based off of other substances? Just looking for more details.

Well I noticed that many people who support medical marijuana put down other pain killing opiates. If these people truly wanted help those who are suffering they would not demonize opiates just to push their pro marijuana agenda. It is not fair to those who need these stronger painkillers just to survive.

And thanks for the welcome. Yeah I don't understand at all why someone would approve of medical marijuana and in the same breath demonize opiates. Do you often see this type of reaction on the DU?

they think "Big Pharma" is stopping the approval of medical marijuana because it will make their pills obsolete. IMO once medical marijuana is approved I'm sure Big Pharma will have their greedy little hands involved and still have the profits of pain medication since weed does little for severe chronic pain.

I, and many of my acquainance believe that statement is untrue. In the right dosage Cannabis can and does eliminate the need for strong opiates.I know too many people who will testify to that fact. I have two broken disks (compression fractures) in my lower back. Despite chronic pain, I take no over the counter or prescription painkillers other than a daily aspirin. I know people who have weaned themselves off of massive intake of hydrocodone by switching to cannabis.

Two lower back surgeries, one neck fusion and shunt surgery for Hydrocephalus. I have a total of 11 herniated discs, stenosis of the spine in four areas, degenerative disc disease and spinal arthritis plus bone spurs and such, and cannabis is like a mild muscle relaxant to my pain.

Perhaps you and the others you mentioned were not good candidates for opiate therapy since pot was able to handle your pain on it's own, which is a good thing in my eyes. Everyone is different and just cause you can get by on marijuana does not mean everyone can.

against weed being legal at all, but I also know that it can not replace some of the opiates that people need. As supplement yes, replacement no.

Whether that be opiates, weed, or cranial electrostimulation.

I'm also for legalization of weed & most other drugs as well, preferring a public-health approach to addiction.

this is what it should be all about, helping those who suffer. More tools to help those who suffer the better.
