Market Basket nears deal: Artie T will sign papers over the weekend

Last edited Fri Aug 22, 2014, 07:54 PM - Edit history (1)

Looks like the workers and customers won this one.

Meanwhile, where did Artie T spend his evening last night and this morning? At the wake and funeral of a worker's family member.

From New England Cable News:

“In briefings today, all parties report that they are optimistic that an agreement will be reached to sell the company to Arthur T. Demoulas and to restore him to operating authority on an interim basis until the sale closes. Subject to reducing their agreement in principle to writing by Sunday, the Board will forestall taking adverse employment action against the employees who have abandoned their jobs. We are hopeful that employees will return to work, and the stores will reopen, early next week.”

UPDATE: Fox 25 Boston in tonight's newscast said that a agreement is in place to sell to Artie T and re-instate him as CEO until the sale goes through. Stores are expected to be open in 96 hours.

w00t!

Artic made a statement now that he wants this settled immediately.

Another chunk did not.

Unions are far more critical when all of management wishes to annihilate the workers.

I am no where near Market Basket's stores, but I am so happy for you guys! This is a shot in the arm for everyone who thinks the "little people" can't win. Hope it works out as planned.

Other stores in the area are aiming to compete by lowering prices which is good for the consumer. But they're missing one important thing....Artie T

I need to shop and have forced myself to eat a lot of stuff I have had in the freezer. Can't afford the other store options.
I hope the restocking goes quickly and prices to not rise to compensate for lost money. I also have a concern that there will be price changes made by Arthur T to pay for the buy-out. I do hope this transition goes well for all concerned.

It has been interesting to see this long and peaceful workers strike. The workers did a stand-up job, now it is time to win back customers.

Seeing the customers and vendors stick it out like that has been a sight to behold. I'm glad it didn't get a full on constant national barrage as I think that would have made things more untenable, but it's going to have a larger impact as time goes on and other companies realize that the employees and customers do have the real power. MA leads the way again.

They're all cautiously holding their breath, however, lots of part timers are being called in for tomorrow. Artie has been around thanking people at the Chelmsford store and told people to hang in just a little bit longer. A few more customers are shopping, but most are still staying away waiting for the final word.

It's been amazing to watch this all unfold from here. I've never see such solidarity in my life for anything--liberals, conservatives, the politically ignorant, crazy people, sane people, a mix of cultures, old people, high school kids, little kids, bosses & baggers. It's been so inspiring I could cry.
