Black Panther-Inspired Dallas Gun Club Invokes Right To Open Carry

Black men with automatic rifles slung casually over one shoulder walking around the movie theaters. Black women in restaurants with their guns on the table between them. What in hell is going on? Have black people, finally tired of being on the receiving end of the bullets, risen up? Are they taking back the South? Has another Civil War begun?

No. These men and women are invoking their right to open carry. What? Wait a minute. Isn’t there something in that law that says only white people can be gun slingers? You know, down at the bottom in print too small to read?

No. In Texas blacks are protesting police violence by showing us their trigger fingers. More than 30 members have formed the Huey P. Newton Gun Club. Dressed in black, faces solemn, they “march through South Dallas with rifles, shotguns and AR-15s. People on the sidewalks are wary and stop to watch them.

--Snip--

According to their gun club’s website,

“The recent murders of unarmed black, brown, and whites across the United States of America has eradicated trust in the police states.”

They believe that, Individuals across this nation have been stripped of due process, subjected to state-sponsored police terrorism, and continue to suffer the fate of being terminated extra-judicially.

--Snip--
The gun club members chanted (Michael) Brown’s name and said that their main goal is to,

“Shed light on local shootings by police. Dallas County leaders recently announced that they are looking into ways to change how they investigate shootings involving police officers.”

“We think that all black people have the right to self-defense and self-determination. We believe that we can police ourselves and bring security to our own communities.”

The police in Dallas murdered 70+ “unarmed individuals, most of them black and brown men, over the last 10 years.”

With the exception of one recent incident where where the defense used the surveillance footage to contradict the police testimony, there have been “no police indictments since 1973.”

The indictment of Dallas policeman who killed an unarmed civilian was possible only, because the surveillance footage was available. That means dashcams and body cameras for police officers are vital.

--Snip--
“We need to arm ourselves, not to attack anybody, but in self-defense. We can’t let people just come into our community, whether they are law enforcement or not, and just gun our people down and there is no accountability.”

Trying to write a law that allows the bubbas to open carry and yet prohibits the blacks from doing so.

all over the place on this? I find it amazing. Through the haze of racist remarks, I saw a civil discussion between an Open-Carry activist (presumably white) and a supporter of the HPN Gun Club about the manner of dress. The OC poster suggested less intimidating uniforms so as not to bother onlookers, while the Gun Club poster said a uniform look and march cohesion gave a since of trust & confidence based on training and discipline. The two seemed to understand the "stylistic" concerns of different cultures.

What MIGHT happen is the legislature will pass a law restricting open-carry of long guns, but pass legislation allowing open-carry of handguns -- what Open Carry Texas has wanted all along. The open-carry of long gun demonstrations are a ploy to pressure the legislature to enact open-carry of pistols. Interesting allies-in-arms.

repeatedly stop and ask for all the ID that proves they are the owner of the weapon and legally able to carry it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

There have been similar actions by black Dallas activists, in one association or another, before the Open Carry people first stepped on a sidewalk.

Maybe people will make a reassessment of the RKBA, now.

Are you saying that "gun humping bubbas" which are normally repukes, are silent about HPN gun club open carrying?

Wait, I'm confused...they're protesting and speaking out against the HPN gun club open carrying?

No?

So ...yeah. The ones getting hoist on their own petard, are the anti-gun loons:

They were pretty peaceful from the looks of it. Too bad the RWNJs out there will probably still fling their rhetorical poop at these folks, though, even as they continue to defend Cliven Bundy and pals, who actually did threaten law enforcement.

I don't particularly like the idea of open carry, but the fact that the "Black people would be gunned down on sight for trying this!" trope has been proven baseless, it gives me some satisfaction to see the egg on the face of the usual gun-prohibitionist race-baiters.

Gun rights are civil rights.

Folks like me tend to focus on the armed part, while it seems folks like gun-prohibitionists tend to have paranoia cornered pretty well. Lots of "Blood in the streets", "People will kill each other wholesale", "You'll be shot for looking at someone sideways!", and lots of other fear-mongering.

Paranoia indeed.

"Why you have to go and get all factual?"

If that was my intention, I'd point out right now, that one of your sentences is not entirely accurate:

If we're going to scare the readers with scary black people, we need to give them scary black automatic rifles too.

But I'm not gonna do that.
