Ferguson was a bomb waiting to explode
Three red flags tells me this.
One. Out of the 54 police officers employed by Ferguson, only three are African American. I grew up on the South side of Chicago, back in the early 70's. The neighborhood that I grew up in was predominently African American. There were plenty of African American police officers patroling that neighborhood, so the African American representation, on the police force, was highly visible.
Seems to me that Ferguson is 40 or 50 years behing the times in this regard. It's not good having a white police force enforcing the law over a predominently African American neighborhood.
Two. The town of Ferguson has about 20,000. There were 27,000 arrest warrents issued last year. So you have more arrest warrents issued than you have than the population of the town. That is insane. Given that this town is predominently poor, that is a horrible financial burdon upon the town citizens who can least afford it.
Three. Two thirds of the City of Ferguson's money comes from fines and fees collected from Arrests. It seems to me that the city government honestly needs to find different and new revenue streams that does not add to the misery index of its citizens.
These numbers paints a picture, for me anyway, of a town that is living in a virtual police state. And on top of that, you have the appearance of blatent racist hiring practices by the city officials. A white police force over a predominently African American town.
Gee, what could go wrong, right?
