Here's Time Magazine's Powerful Cover Showing The Ferguson Chaos

By AHIZA GARCIA Published AUGUST 21, 2014, 9:38 AM EDT

The cover of Time magazine's Sept. 1 issue featured a moving image of the continuing unrest in Ferguson, Mo.

The photo shows a kneeling figure with raised arms, a gesture adopted by the protestors in Ferguson to show they mean no threat, backlit by bright lights.

Here's the cover:

Michael Brown laying face down in the street with the stream of blood running out of his head into the gutter would have been a better one to portray THE tragedy. But I only speak for myself.

too much for the Brown family. Just sick of murdered young black men in the streets, whether sanctioned by the state or for other reasons. Just sick of it. You're right.

Then they use terms like "urban pacification".

To which, I say, "Suck THIS."

Racist bastards.

Or are they just doing a bit on him? Interviewing him? I can't really tell from what the distinction is between the people up and below the '+' sign.

I've been watching the livestreams of the Ferguson protests on and off all week. There you see real people, many of them articulate and with a powerful message to deliver, some just fatalistic but determined, all of them with names and faces and personalities.

This cover image is a nothing. It could have been posed in a studio. It could be anybody. It could be a white person. All you see is the back of a head and the silhouette of a body. It's effectively air-brushed the people of Ferguson out of the tragedy of Ferguson.

And that's wrong.

How's about we all throw in 5-10$ and build a Swimming Pool for the Ferguson black community, The Michael Brown Memorial Pool. It would be run by a community board with free swim lessons, a certified Water Safety Instructor etc.
