as gleaned from a number of articles last week. Just a tidbit here, snippet there. Reminds me of the lead up to the last Iraq war.
ISIS and Kurds - Bombing was hastily initiated because ISIS was advancing toward Irbil.
How could ISIS, numbering just 6,000, be pushing through Kurd defenses. Well, because . . .
ISIS and Iraq Sunni's - Seems the Iraqi Sunni's have joined with ISIS. From what I remember, this has added an additional 60,000 fighters. Remember the deal the Sunni tribes offered, they would quit aiding ISIS/switch sides if they obtain autonomy?
So, what about the Shia led Iraq army . . .
ISIS/Sunni v. Shia - Shia led Iraq army is showing little capability, even in the region of Baghdad.
So, will Iran enter . . .
Seems they have. Per an Iraqi Air Force pilot the Iranian Air Force is already operating from a base in Iraq.
Little of the above jives with the headline stories. So, what is the truth, I sure as hell don't know from this vantage point. But I have a strong suspicion that things are a lot worse than we are being told. And the above tracks with our apparent 'defend the Kurds/abandon Baghdad' strategy.
What a mess.

(5,169 posts)Wouldn't it be awesome to watch Iran and Saudi Arabia kill each other while we sit back from the safety and comfort of our living rooms?
