This asshat will not be a cop much longer, I expect.

(21,151 posts)Both are arguably correct statements. To suggest that 2014 St. Louis, MO = 1962 Selma, AL is more than just a little absurd.
Apparently Holder is looking at the Henry Davis case (the guy wrongfully arrested and charged with getting his blood on officers uniforms). A key perpetrator of that is now on the city council.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/08/19/from-ferguson-cop-embroiled-in-a-brutality-suit-to-city-councilwoman.html
One Ferguson cop who has proved worth a good look is Eddie Boyd, who was previously with the St. Louis Police Department. He left there after twice being accused of striking youngsters with his service weapon, one a 16-year-old boy, the other a girl of just 12.
Boyd won a case brought against him in civil court, but the Administrative Hearing Commission of the State of Missouri recommended that the department discipline him for two counts of committing a criminal act and for committing an act while on active duty that involved a reckless disregard for the safety of a person.
Still, the Ferguson police department was happy to hire him, adding another white to a 52-member department that has only three black officers. He has since been sued in federal court by a man named Eugene McAllister, who filed a handwritten complaint alleging that Boyd and two other officers beat him as he held up his hands as ordered following a car chase on January 26, 2011.
Plaintiff never created a threatening move towards any officer but continued to state, I give! I give! the complaint says. Officer Eddie Boyd then started beating plaintiff in the head and body by punching him over and over.
Boyd has denied the allegation.
And then there were Tihen and three other cops in a brutality case that had been all but forgotten.
Typically 20% of something causes 80% of the problem. start by replacing 10 of the worst offenders along with the police chief and his top minions (20-25% of the force), with all black personnel, and I bet things would get substantially better. If there's still trouble, get rid of another 10 or whatever. They only have 3 black cops and should have 35 to match the mix of races in that city. With their behavior to date, a bunch of heads could roll.

(653 posts)They wouldn't be dishing out 3 warrants per household every year or whatever that crazy stat was - fewer cops required.
That might be offset by fewer fines but it has contributed to doubling poverty there so a bunch of those fines weren't ever getting paid anyway.
I hope Obama gives serious consideration to trying to help these folks with some pardons. It would be a wonderful gesture to these oppressed people that their president reached out directly to demonstrate to the country that they matter.
A bunch of these warrants stink and would be suffocating a bunch of innocent folks.

The St Ann's chief of police statement did not even mention the pointing of a gun at a civilian's face - that part was spun as a separate action prior to the altercation - the emphasis was on the verbiage, not the gun.

(11,138 posts)My guess is he will simply be redeployed somewhere other than Ferguson. I doubt they have any issue with what he did, more that he was caught on camera and identified. If they put him back out there he will draw too much attention. So, instead of getting to play Call of Duty: Ferguson with his buddies he has to go back to patrolling I-70 or whatever.

This tells us why they don't want the press to assemble: bad guys get caught by a good free-press. No press around, this guy gets to arm up and hit the streets again tonight and assault some more people.

(62,325 posts)kill them. I don't get the different treatment for cops when they threaten people. That too has to change. Their sense of being 'untouchable' helps cause a dangerous attitude that they have a right to kill civilians and expect few if any consequences.

(1 post)why do the good folks of Ferguson (overwhelmingly African Americans) keep the (overwhelmingly White) racist leaders in office?
The answer, which, as far as I know, has not been touched by our dumb-ass media, is a mystery to me.
Something's going on in Ferguson, and, it stinks to the high heavens. I mean, the answer is so simple, just vote the bastards out. So, why don't they?
The minority Whites have had a stranglehold on the power structure of Ferguson for so long that I have to suspect that they've put up barriers to the Black's voting.
Strange, isn't it?

(31,849 posts)1) "Black folks ... do not trying this at home!"
I cannot imagine a Black person talking to that (hopefully, soon to be ex) police officer in that manner and having the end result be the same. At best, the officer would have arrested the Black person ... or more likely, the officer would have been in fear for his life and had no recourse but to shoot the guy.
2) I really fear for the community, if/when these racist police officers lose their jobs ... They will be the military arm of the local "{Black people} Cost Me My Job" Chapter of the White Victim's of Discrimination Lodge.

They've done this for so long, I doubt they even realize why their actions are so abhorrent to viewers all over the world. Just like this out of control cop, they don't even try to hide their hatred because THAT is their normal and customary method of interacting with the people in the community.

Subject: RE: KSDK phone call
Last night, during one of the many recent
conflicts in Ferguson, a St. Ann officer had
bottles of urine and water thrown on him.
The officer then raised his weapon after seeing a
gun in the crowd, he continued to scan the
area trying to assess the scene. While
assessing the scene he asked several people
including a member of the media to move.
The media person refused to cooperate and in
an attempt to keep the public safe, my officer
used profanity with the public and told the
media person that he was going to kill him if
he didn't move.
We certainly do not condone the verbiage that
was used and the officer will be counseled on
his choice of words.
The officer is suspended without pay until further investigation.
The St. Ann Police Department regrets this
unfortunate situation and hopes for a peaceful
resolution in Ferguson.

He clearly just wanted to exercise his authority, telling them "I will fucking kill you, get back" while approaching them. If he thought someone had a gun that would be pretty a stupid thing to do.
So even if that is true, he needs to be completely fired and not simply suspended.
