The video also shows another American journalist. His life is said by the militants in the video to hang in the balance, depending on what Obama does next.
The journalist is believed to be Steven Sotloff, who was kidnapped at the Syria-Turkey border in 2013. Sotloff is a contributor to Time and Foreign Policy magazines.

(297,655 posts)Poor James Foley.. that poor man and his family. I remember when the fucking terrorists beheaded Daniel Pearl in 2002.

And, now Steven Sotloff's life is in the balance.. What in the hell can we do about it?

The only thing I can come up with is that Isis can't handle defeat. They lost the Mosul Dam and that was their first defeat. Not to be light about it but talk about Obama derangement syndrome, they are directing threats at him.
I can't imagine what they have in mind bringing the world's wrath upon themselves.

(39,321 posts)as a total demand on his time has generated more than a few new grey hairs.
And now he might go to Ferguson. I think he needs to extend his vacation!

(39,321 posts)Can't remember if it was Rachel or Chris Hayes show but someone said they are "considering" a trip to Ferguson for Obama, no information about when? If I hear more I'll update!
Cha
(297,655 posts)but I found this while searching for "Obama going to Ferguson-Maddow"..
When Holder will say what Obama will not
"President Obama held a brief press conference in the White House yesterday to address two major topics: developments in Iraq, where theres been some noticeable progress, and conditions in Ferguson, Missouri. On the former, the president was focused and specific. On the latter, Obama was vague and cautious.
This almost certainly wasnt an accident. Ezra Klein had a terrific piece yesterday noting many of the reasons the president wont give the Ferguson speech his supporters want. Theres a fair amount to this, much of it having to do with the White Houses belief that Obamas remarks on racially-charged conflicts tend to make those problems worse."

I hope you don't mind.. if you do I'll edit.

(39,321 posts)and it seems that it might be best to be cautious unless resolution looks impossible.
I heard this but it was not from one of the hosts on MSNBC so it might have not been very accurate.
The country is going to be pretty divided on this so I can see them being super, super careful!
Let's hope the evidence and witnesses are solid enough to avoid doubt.

(297,655 posts)Nicholas Evan "Nick" Berg (April 2, 1978 May 7, 2004) was an American businessman who went to Iraq after the US invasion of Iraq. He was abducted and executed according to a video released in May 2004 by Islamist militants in response to the Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse involving the United States Army and Iraqi prisoners. The CIA claims Berg was personally murdered by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.[1] The decapitation video was released on the Internet, reportedly from London to a Malaysian-hosted homepage by the Islamist organization, al-Ansars.[2]

Looks like they didn't think they'd ever lose Mosul Dam and now that Allah has let them down they're off their game. Still, they could find many recruits because they might be considered to have scared the American devil with their threats.
They give new recruits a cell phone and other goodies apparently.

(19,567 posts)They just (allegedly) murdered a man by cutting off his head slowly with a short blade. We should trust them why exactly? They're ruthless killers in the name of their fundamentalism with no regard for human suffering or life. My gut says they'll kill everyone they can, in the wost way they can come up with, so long as it gains them some media attention and furthers their cause.
I feel powerless. I really hate that feeling.

(19,567 posts)I know that can leave scars on a person. I'm a total coward and have avoided seeing the families this time. I made myself look before in the past and I can't do it again just now. I can imagine their suffering too vividly without seeing their faces at night as well. Things like these haunt me and heart. I have too much empathy I've been told.
I share your broken heart.

(39,321 posts)A message from Jim's mom, Diane Foley:
We have never been prouder of our son Jim. He gave his life trying to expose the world to the suffering of the Syrian people.
We implore the kidnappers to spare the lives of the remaining hostages. Like Jim, they are innocents. They have no control over American government policy in Iraq, Syria or anywhere in the world.
We thank Jim for all the joy he gave us. He was an extraordinary son, brother, journalist and person. Please respect our privacy in the days ahead as we mourn and cherish Jim.

(652 posts)Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way that the monsters in ISIS won't kill this man. I pray for this man and his family. Like so many other innocents that have lost their life to these animals.
I'm starting to think that ISIS is the new 3rd Reich - an army of pure evil.
