Exactly and it has been for a long time. We elected raygun and both bushies out of fear.

I voted for Carter in 1976, but by 1980, I couldn't justify giving him another four years.

Reagan got elected because, under Carter, the economy was a mess (high unemployment, high interest rates and high inflation, aka stagflation); the Iran hostage crisis was a complete embarrassment and our response to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan was pathetic. Carter did some good things (the Camp David Accords come to mind), but on balance, he was a failure in the eyes of the country.
