The Incredible Front Page Of Today's St. Louis Newspaper

The front page of Tuesday's St. Louis Post-Dispatch provided a stunning display of the chaos taking place in Ferguson, Mo.

A vivid photo of a police officer firing tear gas was accompanied by the headline: "Streets Flare Up." The Post-Disptach also featured an announcement of school closures and a diagram of Michael Brown's autopsy findings.

Here's the front page, via the Newseum:

...whether he was guilty or innocent. One small inexpensive tool could probably stop a lot of the mayhem there. The only reason he wasn't, I have read, is because FPD doesn't want to wear them. Now, I wonder why?

Follow the revenue stream. Like many cash-strapped municipalities, Ferguson is balancing its books on the backs of those least able to pay. Traffic stops, etc., are increasingly expected to underwrite public services that are no longer funded by a tax base of federal or state dollars. It's a base form of regressive taxation.

If the questionable traffic stops are filmed, that revenue source is severely restricted.

That, and their practices are de facto racism deriving from de facto racists.
