I don't understand the police response in Missouri in the last couple days.

It makes no sense. I don't understand why they use tear gas and rubber bullets for these crowds. If they want to deal with the people misbehaving they should use old fashioned batons and fill up the jails. It seems that the police are happy to just fight it out from a distance. In the end the troublemakers are still on the street and a lot of innocent people get hurt.

1. Absolutely stupid response.

They couldn't have handled it worse. But I understand why... its because the cops are jack-booted thugs used to always getting away with it. No media spotlight, and a DA that covered their asses. The rules have changed now, they might realize that, but are incapable of acting different. All they have is a hammer... every problem looks like a nail to them.

2. I agree with the hammer-nail analogy, but for a different reason.

I think it has to do with tools and training. They have all of this crazy equipment and they are using it. They are not properly equipped and prepared for a simple civil disturbance.

Perhaps it's because of this very thing that you don't understand the police. The police are in a position where they no longer have to be understood, as a police state should be.

This has been an exercise in mis-management of this situation and it should be turned into a teachable moment - to re-school the police and police depts all over this country as to how to handle a volatile situation like this in the future.
