So why no outrage over Eric Garner?

Yeah, I'm one of the hated "wait for the facts" people here re Mike Brown's homicide.

BUT:

Eric Garner's murder was documented via videotape. Pure murder, and the guy did nothing except maybe sell some "loosies" The cops KILLED him in broad daylight and on video....for NO REASON.

Hey, why is DU not up in arms about this? Have you SEEN that video? Do any of you know who he is?

Oh wait, no violence and no shit to stir??? Boring right?

No fun there when people wait for the process. Much more fun to have looting and Molotov cocktails and race baiting.

Sheesh.

Look up the definition. Yes both are homicides...good lord.

Point missed.

No action has been taken against those cops who murdered him. Except the paid vacation dealio that always happens.

Ok, y'all go back to your happiness over the violence that is occurring in Ferguson.

It will help no one. It will only hurt the community there.

But go back to your fun. I gotta be at work early and will have to wait till tomorrow to enjoy my flames.

Night to all you pot stirrers.

Livestream the protests and the police overreaction, with journalists being arrested and hassled. Show me the videos of cops shooting rubber bullets down a city street.

Regardless of what happened with the shooting in Ferguson, the overreach of the police has become a 2nd storyline.

Haven't seen anything here about Gaza or the Ukraine or much of anything else until this shooting occurred and the media decided to forget everything else and focus on this case exclusively. That's DU for you... just follow along with whatever the media is reporting, and never mind what had everyone's attention last week. I used to come here as the go-to place for general news. Haven't done that in years now. At least DU hasn't yet succumbed to slathering the news with celebrity rubbish to dig through though.

Huh?

I know that this is the latest thing and there are riots and press and woohoo! even the National Guard now!

But Eric Garner is still dead. And his death is on tape.

I guess I just don't get the difference here.

Though sadly, I do.

Night now.

It's arrogant and dismissive, and inexplicable if you're the least aware of all the DU coverage of the issue.

I don't know why you want to argue with those who are merely pointing out to you that the Eric Garner homicide-by-cop has been the subject of much attention--and yes, outrage--here. Your combative posture only alienates.

and explode. Also, Mike was a very young guy... 17 or 18? People tend to get a lot more angry when kids are gunned down.

Edited to add: Also, again, as others have pointed out, the arrest was pretty quick in Garner's case. Darren is still free.

I only ask because many here, myself included, post things about police abuse all the time.

One of the websites I visit at least once a week is this. http://www.policemisconduct.net/

Where I see things every single time I go there. Things like this video blasting the process known as Stop and Frisk.

Here's the long explanation about the history of the process, and the regular abuse towards blacks.

http://www.policemisconduct.net/refresher-on-stop-frisk/

But none of us know anything about that. Because we're too busy being led around by the nose for all intents and purposes.

More than 400 people are killed a year by police. That is more than one a day. But we're ignorant of that apparently.

Here is a list of people killed by police for the moth of January. I've posted this link more than twice before in the last couple months.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers_in_the_United_States,_January_2014

But none of us know anything about that. The KKK is raising money for Darren Wilson. http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2014/08/13/kkk-raising-money-for-police-officer-who-shot-african-american-teen/

The community thinks this is wrong. I've seen the wait for the facts game played out. One of my favorites from St. Louis. A beating of a handcuffed black teen was caught on tape, the officer was charged, and the Judge dismissed all charges because she refused to watch the tape. The tape was to protect the police you see, not the public from the police. http://photographyisnotacrime.com/2013/07/04/judge-finds-cop-not-guilty-of-assault-after-refusing-to-watch-video-of-assault/

Let's wait until the facts come out shall we? Then we can watch them swept under the rug. The only way to get justice is to keep the pressure on those with the authority to make things happen.
